By far the absolute worst prof. I've had at TU. Maybe he cared about his students before retiring, but he clearly doesn't now. Refuses to write names like Rimsky Korsakov and Mussorgsky on the board because he expects you to know them. Takes points off if you write the correct info on the tests, but not the correct info he wanted. No study guides.

I had him for both Intro to Opera and Music After 1800. The classes were easy, but I knew most of the material already. Lectures are dull and lack participation but at least there's music. Tests are insane. I always got A's but I also knew what he was looking for and wrote feverishly the whole time (at least 10 pages of essays for each final).

Great professor. Has been teaching for a very long time and knows what he's talking about. Studying for his tests takes a lot of time and effort, but definitely worth it to take his class.

:This was definitely one of the hardest music courses I took at Tulane but also one of the most rewarding. Baron is an engaging lecturer, and incredibly willing to help you learn the study skills necessary to succeed on his exams - especially the listening parts, which are really hard.

LOVED HIM! Take any class you can with him! Lectures were interesting--I always looked forward to going to class! If you take good notes and pay attention, the tests should be easy with a little bit of studying. Overall I'm really happy I took the class!

You can learn an incredible amount about music from this man. TAKE HIM, because even if you aren't interested in music history, he will make you love it. Ok, so his lectures aren't the most riveting, but he is just AWESOME and so knowledgeable. Take a class from him even if you aren't a Music major.

I took 142 with him as well. Baron knows his stuff, and he'll relate it to New Orleans however he can. He's a bit aloof, so don't expect any replies to emails or help outside class. The bulk of information will be learned in class via somewhat monotone but interesting lecture - so just show up and take notes. Ask for pizza, his son owns Dough Bowl!

Extremely amazing class!! I loved it, and Porfessor Baron is extremely interesting. You learn a lot, while having fun watching a lot of operas... Not to many hours of class, and the guarentee to have a broader knowledge of the operas in all the world and periods at the end of the semester. He's really smart, nice, and simple!!

I really thoroughly this class. He really knows the material and is very passionate about it. The tests really aren't that hard either. You have to be able to recognize the listening assignments for the tests, but I thought that was fun! It's a good way to get people more familiar with the music.

Terrible professor. Never clear on test material. Everything comes as a surprise on tests. Has you recall over 50 songs, concertos, and preludes for one test only. Music 141-Baron mind-reading class should be a pre-rec.
