I am a business major and enjoy art so I chose to take this class. BIG MISTAKE. He does not have fun with his students and has way too high expectations. He will assign something and have no clear grading criteria. He doesn't give you a rubric or anything. He is very disorganized and class is 3 hours and you basically do nothing productive.

I was in his class ! He was insanely helpful ! Probably the only professor who actually cared. To the person who left the comment below I feel bad for you. If you cared and actually paid attention you would have gotten more out of class. He is the only professor that has found resources for students. Shame:( If your lazy this is what you get!

Example of a good artist who cannot and should not teach. Never available outside of class. During lecture he is incredibly pessimistic and discouraging. Cannot follow a single, logical point which makes it difficult to have conversations with him. Hypocritical. Humor is inappropriate. Lost respect for him very quickly.

Kelly is very sporadic in his teaching methods, yet effective. He is very sarcastic, some people dont get it, some people do (lighten up a little). I always had a lot of fun in class. Everything is very hands on and you get to know the people in your class very well. If you're not afraid to get a little dirty you WILL have a ton of fun.

Kelly is a great professor. He truly teaches those who are beginners, and helps the majors improve. He pushes you and assigns crazy deadlines which can be stressful, but you manage to get the work done. Know in advanced that you will be spending a lot of time in Cohen outside of class. He bases you on your own work and doesn't compare you to others

I know for a fact that he has helped me understand the importance of a good artist resume!!! True we don't use the book...but he provides tons of handouts that are extremely helpful. I only wish we had this class earlier. He's a great guy and he knows the ins and outs of being an artist.

Don't buy the books. He doesn't touch them. Kelly means well but classes are boring and long. Mostly pointless and pointed towards grad schools and gallery showings. If you want a career in the arts-business world, get ready to be bored.

Great class... was kinda hard but taught me a lot things I did not know about 3-D. I'm a graphics major and I fill like this class has been most helpful! He's always around to help...I feel bad some times due to large amount of lazy students in class. I feel like he has to take a lot from students!!!

Great teacher-some of the assignments and due dates were kinda hard to manage but over all I feel like I got a lot out of class. He graded fairly and explains what needed to be done to get the best possible grade There where a few students that made the class impossible because they expected the class to be a blow off! Come on guys this is college!

I don't understand why anyone would say anything bad about Dr. Phelps. I know for a fact that he has help me so much in and out of the class that I've learned so much...more than expected! He is amazing,kind, and full of knowledge! He has always been around if I had any question!!! I would tell any student to take take his course.

Kelly's overall a pretty good professor, since he's got tenure you can't really fight him. If you have the balls for it, take his course. He's tough both in grading and in presence, but the way his classes are run are really good to explore what YOU want to do.

Drawing and 3D. DON'T BUY BOOKS. You will never need to use them. Kelly is always there to help, gives you his phone number so you can contact him at anytime and ask him questions. His deadlines are insane. Projects are always pushed back or changed but sometimes his deadlines are completely unrealistic which leads to late nights. Funny, helpful.
