Prof. Perez de Mediola sees things differently from anyone I have ever met. Take her class not just to learn Spanish, history, culture, etc. but to learn a different perspective. She has a spirit, a heart, and a mind that you won't find anywhere else. Do whatever you can to get into her class.

Marina is the best professor I have ever had! Her passion for the class is amazing and she's so inspiring. Though the Core II had heavy reading, she made the class so worthwhile. Andrew and Marina work great together for the course. Participation matters. She is SO understanding in and out of class and her fiery spirit is amazing. LOVE MARINA

She is SUPER into and knowledgeable about her topics. Although the end of the year essay was kind of a mess, she truly does help when you come to her. The only difficulty I faced was having too much freedom, but that can be a good thing. Go to her for help and feedback and you will pass! She wants you to talk but will understand if you're quiet.

Professor Perez de Mendiola is the best prof I've had yet. Her Spanish101 class convinced me to change my major to Spanish lit. Facilitates great discussions, has a ton of knowledge about what she teaches, gives great insight, and loves her students. Expect immersive reading and discussion.

Absolutely amazing professor... don't miss out on the chance to get to know her. Her insights on the material are as valuable as her insights on life! She gets very carried away with her personal beliefs. If you are close minded to only your beliefs, leave this class. She is right in her opinion, but presents it very emotionally. She gets caught up with how she feels and it takes away from her teaching. Nonetheless, her conceptsthoughts are brilliant.

Comment:

Perez De Mendiola is, by far, the sweetest and most adorable professor at Scripps. She is one of few professors who will go out of their way to get to know you and to ask for your opinion during discussion. She is a great facilitator but an important word of advice is to speak up during class. Participation is a big part of your grade.

Took two classes with her: CORE II and La Imagen y la Palabra; love her passion and desire to have students learn, not just make good grades...really flexible and is willing to engage with you outside of class. Her priority is to get you thinking more deeply, which may be difficult at first, but therein lies the challenge; also really funny!

totally unclear in class and yourgrade is totally influenced way too much by participation. made As on all of the writings but got a B in the class bc of participation even though i said things sometimes. way too subjective and just encourages people to say dumb things in class

By far the best professor I have had on the 5Cs. Passionate, dedicated, personable, and brilliant. Her knowledge transcends her field and her fiery personality works well with class discussions. A class where every bit of effort reaps great returns. My Spanish abilities jumped dramatically in her class. Grading is very reasonable and fair.

My favorite Scripps prof by far. She is SO passionate about her work AND her students. She is very helpful and dedicated to her classes and to literature. Her grading is fair and she enthusiastically encourages class discussion. Don't leave the 5 Cs without taking one of her classes!

CORE 1&2: Marina is amazing! She's constantly engaging you in discussions, encouraging you to participate and share your thoughts. She's very open about her own opinions, which is fun, because she's not afraid to debate. Even if she sometimes jumps on opinions, it's all in intellectual fun. If you don't love her, you weren't paying attention.
