Comment:

Astounding professor. Though Hinduism isn't exactly my cup of tea, his presentation of it is beautifully compelling, and additionally, he has changed my views of Christianity and Islam forever. You read a lot, and I'd be careful with the kinds of questions you may ask him, or he may take it the wrong way, but his lectures really are eye-opening.

Comment:

Prof Schmalz is a great lecturer and seems like a cool guy. The class was pretty interesting. If you go to class and take good notes, you won't be in trouble if you skip some of the readings. Only 3 papers and 3 exams to be graded on. One big problem I have with Schmalz is his inability to return graded material in a remotely timely manner.

Prof. Mat is my favorite professor at Holy Cross. His lectures are captivating, well-planned, and really make you think. He encourages lively, intellectual debate both in class and in office hours. He also is very organized and provides outlines each class, which is helpful when it comes time to study for tests.

Prof. Mathew is one of the most interesting professors here. He is full of great stories and is really invested in the material. He assigns a lot of readings and expects you to participate in class. He is somewhat of a harsh grader, but always willing to read over rough drafts of papers and help you do better.

Schmalz is one pretentious prof. He insists that his tests are 'eminently doable,' but just wants you to put his terms on the page & doesn't encourage creative or free thought. His grading system is 'eminently' ridiculous.

Comment:

One of the best professors I have had at HC. His class lectures are great, he really pushes you to think. His lectures are great, it covers all the readings and is very helpful in clarifying unclear points from books. GREAT professor, only problem is that he speaks really fast. A Recorder would help. AWESOME PROFESSOR! Definitiely have to take him!

His lectures are rarely boring and even if they are he goes over everything you will need to know to do well on a paper or test so it's hard to complain. I wouldn't recommend his Compar.Religions class to anyone. I was an active participant in his class, and although he constatly praised this and my other work, he gave me a B+. Steer clear of the Audrey Santos topic unless you want your head bitten off, he doesn't deal with other people's opinions on that topic very well.

Prof. Schmalz was an amazing teacher! I never had any real interest in religion, but his class was so well put together and was taught in such a clear and enthusiastic way that it quickly became my favorite class. He goes over literally everything from the readings, so even if you "forget" to do your hw, you won't be in trouble for tests or papers.

Professor Schmalz is amazing. He is by far one of the best professors here at Holy Cross. He loves to engage his students. He is a livly and entertaining lecturer. Go see him outside of class, he is so nice and helpful. His modern religious movements class is also amazing. Taking his classes made me become a religious studies major.

Prof. Schmalz is great. He helps with every paper, has office hours until late at night on days papers are due, and has a great persona in his lectures. He is funny, interesting, and gets his point across. I advise everyone to take a class with Schmalz.
