Comment:

Though there's always lots of work to do, Professor Ludden's courses are fun and engaging. For sure my favorite Japanese professor! Keep in mind most of this class is self-study (vocab, grammar) and then a review of concepts in the classroom. Because of that, there's usually around an hours worth of homework to do before each class. It's worth it!

Comment:

I love Ludden-sensei. In her language classes she gives daily kanji quizzes, so make sure to study, but chapter tests are straight out of the book. Homework is also daily, but takes 45 min. tops. Teaches entirely in Japanese, which helps listening practice. She herself is funny and really helpful. Definitely the best Japanese teacher at the school.

Comment:

,Ludden-sensei is wonderful! She is enthusiastic about teaching and is extremely approachable outside of class to answer questions. Making upper-division Japanese language learning interesting and applicable is definitely a sign of a star-quality teacher. Be sure to take her elective courses if you have the chance!

Comment:

Mikiko was by far the best language professor I have had at Puget Sound, much better than the French professors. I would highly recommend her to other students. Be prepared to do a fair amount of work though, Japanese isn't as easy as other foreign languages.

Excellent professor. Definitely my type, so I was constantly distracted during tests. Very friendly and outgoing, wants students to succeed. Hard course content, but very focused.

I am so happy that I got to take a class with Ludden-sensei. She is a verry fun person to interact with. I spend time with her outside of class and have enjoyed her as a teacher and as a friend. I have learned much in her class that will help when traveling to Japan and around Japan. I recommend taking her classes.

Comment:

She is very nice, though you won't get close to her. She's the teacher, you're the student. Sometimes she doesn't understand your question, but she also gives you some fun anecdotes about Japan. Not many quizzes and tests are based heavily off of the text's lessons.

Funny lady. Great Japanese professor and I'm going to miss her class when I'm gone. I marked her as hard, but really that's probably simply the nature of learning the Japanese language. Easygoing when it matters.
