if you don't see her during office hours, good luck passing. She only has about 4 papers and then you have 2 presentations. She makes you read a book a week but you don't really have to read. You can google it and as long as you participate in discussion you should be fine. Make sure to constantly see her about your papers though!!!

She is a wonderful teacher and nice to talk with. Sometimes we go on tangents for the whole hour but it is good discussion. Essays are a little long and the response papers are really short. Definitely a subjective grading scale but if you go and talk to her, or participate in class it is a definite A.

I took several classes with Mrs Cirillo back in the 1970s. She remains one of the finest teachers I was ever privileged to work with. I'm thrilled that she's still teaching

WORST PROFESSOR EVER! DO NOT AT ANY COST TAKE HER CLASS! This is a clear warning! Literally the worst professor I have ever seen at UIC! Grades your papers at grad level despite the fact that its a freshmen level class. Worst criticizer! Forgets the fact that you sent her papers! Terrible memory and teaching style! Rambs off in class about nonsense

If you're ready for harsh criticism that leaves you in mid-tears.. make sure you take this class! Be forewarned, she may have full blown discussions that take up the whole hour and 15 mins explaining how many terrible writers exist in her class. Instead of actually trying to help you, she may just drown you in her "critical thinking" pool of death.

She is awful. She told our class that "college isn't for some of you and maybe some of you should consider dropping out and taking a year off." She also directly told my friend and I that there is nothing wrong with becoming a barista. She doesn't help at all and is so old and forgetful. Don't expect to get an A unless you are a professional writer

Possibly the BEST teacher I've encountered. She is so passionate about what she teaches. I was concerned when I realized the grades were just based on participation, two papers and a presentation, but if you go to her office hours and ask for help, she'll lead you towards getting an A. She's an amazing woman. Everyone should take a class of hers.

Really passionate about subject and will teach you to analyze the heck out of the books.Going to talk with her is really nice and interesting.Usually you have to read a book a week(varies from 200-300pgs,youre lucky if only 100pg or intro) and hard grader on papers but office hours will help along with great feedback.Only hw is reading and 2 papers

Dr. Cirillo is a fantastic educator. Her passion on the subjects she teachers (Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, Australian Founding, etc) is very clear as she is extremely enthusiastic in her lectures. Prepare to work hard in this class and spend many hours on your coursework. Graded homework doesn't exist, but large papers do!

How to get an A in her class: 1. Agree with everything she says. Any ideas conflicting with her own will automatically ruin your chances of an A, or 2. become some sort of specialist. Be the religious person or the economist. Be the Greek or Biblical allusion person. Remember, anything else and you will not have any chance of getting the A.
