All round amazing guy. was Enthusiastic every class, participation was never "compulsory" but definitely helps your grade. Class was not necessary either, but going helps him remember you name and will help you case when he grades your speeches and paper.

Professor Mapp is THE MAN. Seriously, he changed my freshman year so much (for the better). His feedback is great, discussions were amazing, and he is a great and understanding guy. The readings were long and tough, but they were so worth it because the discussion was outstanding. TAKE THIS CLASS. IF NOT, TAKE A CLASS WITH PROFESSOR MAPP!

I'm not a history major but this was easily my favorite class I've taken at the College so far. Professor Mapp made the class incredibly interesting and came up with lots of thought provoking questions that really made you dig deep. It's a lot of reading and he isn't a super easy grader, but he really is an incredible professor.

I'm not a history major, but this was my FAVORITE class of the semester. Professor Mapp makes any subject interesting. His funny comments and helpful insights were great in a seminar setting. I would recommend taking any class with him just for his great personality! There is a bit of reading, but nothing a W&M student can't handle.

Professor Mapp is awesome. He assigns A LOT of reading. Seriously. It's a ton of reading. But, he ably synthesizes it with lectures to keep your attention throughout class and make you interested! Do ALL the readings before class and you'll have an amazing experience.

Best professor ever!! Mapp is funny, brilliant, and very helpful. He makes the material accessible, but never dumbs it down for us. There is a lot of reading, but he understands that his is not the only class and is pretty lenient. We had two short papers, a midterm, and a final - he graded fairly on all of them.

I enjoyed Prof. Mapp's class a lot. He's a fair grader, and a great lecturer. Be prepared for unconventional insights, however: I'd never realized that Thomas Jefferson was not only a controversial figure in early American history, but later (after being raised as an undead) a collaborator with the Japanese occupation of East Asia.

mapp is a funny, nice guy. classes are all discussion based on the readings for the day. he's clear, extremely knowledgeable, understanding, and engaging. you also take 2 field trips to museums instead of class. 2 essays, midterm and final. B is very attainable but he pushes you hard for an A.

My favorite professor at W&M! My entire class absolutely loved him. You could miss a class or two but who would want to! His lectures are very upbeat. There is never a dull moment. Lots of reading, but he's the kind of prof you would read 1000 pages a night for! I recommend Prof. Mapp to every person I talk to on campus! I only wish he taught more!

Mapp is the best. He has a lot of energy and gets really excited about whatever we're talking about in class, and that makes the students excited as well. I've only been at W&M a few semesters, but he's the best professor I've had here thus far. Take Mapp!

SO sad I didn't discover Mapp until my senior year. He is fantastic. Classes very interesting, an endearingly funny/witty guy, and learned a ton. DO the reading (it's a lot), or participation and exams will be tough, but it's interesting. Very helpful, easy to talk to, wants you to think for yourself. Can't wait to take 411. Take his class!

Easily my favorite professor at the College. I took both History 411 and 412 with him sophomore year, and over half the class from 411 stuck with him for 412, which doesn't happen a whole lot. He's goofy, but in an endearing sort of way and does a good job of keeping the class, even lectures, interesting. Take his classes!
