Among the best professors of my undergrad. A man who knows culture and recognizes centuries of human thought conveyed in human works. Challenges our interpretations. Great course. Life-changing. Illuminating.

I took this as an Honors class. I spent most of my time during the week reading for this class. He's passionate about his field and actually wrote the Enduring Legacies textbook for the course here (but he didn't assign it to us?). He's a tough grader and his tests were killer. Spend most of your time studying for his tests.

I did not like him at first, but compared to other CH teachers, he is good. His lectures werent that boring. I had him as my discussion leader and that probably helped 80%. if you read and go to class youll get a B if you really try you can get an A

I took some Renaissance and Medieval lit courses from Phil Boardman when he was still teaching in the English department. I felt he was a bit arrogant.

Lectures are incredibly detailed. Readings are plentiful. Get ready to really work for your grade. Failed the first exam, but through TA quizzes, the 6 required essays, and better prep for future exams, pulled out a 83%. Took this class with 17 credits, would not recommend; you NEED to put in work. Get used to quote & art identification.

The TA is the one who grades papers and everything but Boardman doesn't give any curves for the tests and the study guides are useless. This class is hard and boring.. When he lectures all he does it talk at you.. Very unhelpful.

The class average on tests are always in the F or D range. Ridiculously hard. He is a super intelligent man, but expects students to know almost as much as him. Extensive readings assigned and lectures are completely irrelevant to tests. Want to do well in his class? Have a photographic memory.

Boardman knows his history. His lectures are absolutely amazing. He's informative and easily understood. Unfortunately, even with amazing lectures, his exams are beyond difficult. Also, the amount of reading in the course is insane. Be prepared, you will need to read for hours and study even longer in order to pull through with a B.

Boring class, horrible teacher. Lectures consist of him rambling about one topic that is not even on the exam. Exams are hard and require you to memorize the large amount of readings he assigns. Avoid Phillip Boardman!

If you are looking for an easy Core Humanities teacher. This is not your teacher. The test are not easy with matching, multiple choice, identify quotes from passages, art identification and essays. Lots of reading and he does not give any extra credit. Yes, attendance is not required but he talks about things in class that will appear on the tests.

This professor is a really good teacher but he is insane when it comes to tests. He expects you to memorize everything you read and you do not know what is required. Discussion leaders are unhelpful and give everyone the same the grade because she does not know English. Definitely not recommended!!!

He doesn't take attendance, but if you don't go to class, you miss crucial information for his tests. There is way too much reading assigned throughout the semester, and it's hard to keep up. Discussion sections are boring and do not keep up with the lecture. Tests are hard. Not recommended. Take another professor if you can.

He really knows his stuff and is passionate about the subject. His tests are hard if you donâ??t read what he assigns. He posts notes online, but I feel that sometimes his notes donâ??t correlate with whatâ??s on the powerpoint, which annoys me because I scramble to write down whatever heâ??s saying and whatâ??s on the powerpoint.

Fantastic professor. Obviously is passionate about the subject and is highly knowledgeable. Try to get into his discussion that accompanies the lecture. Go to lecture, it is interesting and often funny. Read the assignments, they too are often enjoyable. He is a fair grader as well. Best teacher I have had in college.

He is a very engaging professor. He clearly loves the humanities, but I feel like an Eng major (I'm a neurosci major) because of all the reading I have to do for this class. This class does not curve the exams, which are really specific from the assigned reading. Thank god my TA gives extra credit for participation!

This class is what undergraduate education is about, you are exposed to ideas that are the basis for developing good citizens. There is a ton of reading & writing & the tests are challenging. But he is a thoughtful instructor who uses multimedia to compliment his lectures, respects his students & demands high standards for students to do well.

This class uses a textbook that Boardman wrote, translated, contributed, etc. All of his material for the exams is in it. He is a very nice and approachable man and I hope he continues teaching these classes. If you go to class, you will pass.

He knows what he's talking about, but impossible tests. Class average for test was a D and not curved at all. Way too much reading for a 3 credit class. TAs don't even have a clue what will be on the test. Went to class everyday too much information to retain no study guides at all.

Boardman's teaching style is so engaging. He sings, he shows movie clips, he speaks in Old English. But you must read the material thoroughly. It's where he gets all of his questions for exams.
