Good professor. He is very personable and not arrogant. No ego and gives students money for correcting his mistakes. Easy to talk to. Very passionate about the material. Tough class, so definitely go to lecture and keep up with the material. Do hw problems and stay on top of what is going on and you should pass. He gives a very generous curve.

Comment:

Best professor I've had this semester. Resources to study are abundant. He is pretty clear and concise with his lectures. He works from PowerPoint and provides many worked examples to demonstrate concepts. There are weekly quizzes that are pretty easy. Exams are a bit more difficult but overall not bad considering 75% is an A in his class.

Roy yates is the GOAT. He is a funny guy and his course is well designed. Alot of people found this course to be hard but you just need to be prepared for it. The exams are hard but you can do well if you do all practice exams as he doesn't change them that much and take the easy quizzes seriously. His curve is very generous like an A was 75+.

I had the privilege of taking an advanced grad class with Prof. Yates. I developed an enormous level of respect for his dedication to research and teaching. I am grateful for his great knowledge and skills as well as the endless hours he worked in a determination to train me. Finally, Prof. Yates had become, and still remains, my role model.

Annoying professor and unnecessarily difficult class. Take the CS version if possible. Can be funny but pretty rude when you talk to him in front of others.

Any experience before in a stats class will only help with the first exam. Most people either found the slides or book as their primary resource. Lecture was not necessary nor mandatory. He gives you easy quizzes (worth 17%) and a lot of practice exams. I scored 149/200 on first, 227/230 on second, and 217/270 on final. I got an A- you need 75+.

Lectures consist of teaching, writing notes, and solving problems on his tablet, presented on the classroom projector. He is humorous and kind of idiosyncratic (which is good in a professor!). But he is only average in helping students one on one, he doesn't really go out of his way to make sure students are interested and understand the material

Yates is a good Professor for Probability and any Math class, but he is absolutely NUTS for a class like Wireless Revolution. How can you possibly deduct points when students hold different opinions and can successfully back up their arguments? He may seem funny, but he is moreover quite condescending.

Roy Yates is probably one of the smartest guys in ECE. He teaches well and he is also helpful to student. People are scared of his exams and yea they are challenging but he is doing it because students can learn something instead of just memorizing book problems. He will make your life hell if you take his easy. CURVE IS GIGANTIC.do not fear..!!!

He is a beast! Funny, and never gives straight answers to questions. Blabbers a lot. Sets up tough questions. Hard to stay awake in his class, but may be its the subject which is tough. His favourite words - handwaving, book-keeping... :P Is fun to talk to.. the subject is tough, not him! So think twice before taking the course...

He was clear in his lectures, but the exams were hard. The average on the final was in the 40 percent range, and there was a 30 percent curve. 74% was an A. He likes giving extra credit to quizzes just for showing up.

Good teacher. Knows the material, answers questions real well. Sometimes goes off to huge tangents. Goes thru chapters pretty fast. It can be difficult, but it is not him, it is Stochastics.

yates is a funny guy, but you wont learn anything by attending the lecture. Everything i learned was from the recitation. All i have to say is dont worry, there will be a GIANT curve.
