Comment:

She was very funny and very engaging. I learned A LOT from her. Especially taking this class as a Christian, she was respectful of people's beliefs or lack thereof and never showed any biases in her lectures. The class was difficult for me but mainly because I was too lazy to do the readings. Also, her accent was very pleasant to the ear.

Comment:

Elm is brilliant. I learned so much about so much! Not only ancient medicine but also a wealth of knowledge regarding ancient mysteries. She is incredibly witty and sharp. She is clear and concise. She is exactly what you expect from a Cal professor. At the same time she is humble and very accommodating. She is not strict, she's clear.

One of those thoroughly learned professors who throws around lots of names, dates, and non-linear concepts. Can be daunting, can also be charming, and is also distractingly hot for a 50ish professor. Take note, gentlemen: if you find intelligent, sometimes belligerent European women attractive, prepare for some decidedly un-Christian impulses.

Very knowledgeable teacher but hard to understand and follow what she was saying; assigned many expensive books, with lots of reading which I did not do most of. If I could, I would have taken difference course for requirement I was fulfilling. Overall, didn't like her style. Difficult to follow b/c seemed to be all over the place.

She knows so much, it is remarkable. This class made me so much smarter. I will give you fair warning that there is an absolutely HUGE amount of reading, and you have to do most of it to do well in the class. For example if you write an essay on the Aeneid, you better have actually read the book. But I got away with reading roughly 80% of the books

One of the worst professors I've had at Berkeley. Lectures weren't clear. She could never just come out and say what she meant. The best lectures of the course were given by grad students. Plus, she made a paper we wrote worth 15% of the final grade AFTER we had already written it. Not fair!
