He is an awesome teacher but damn does he grade hard! And his test is very hard as well. I took the Milton class and he looks for specific answers for the test. Very hard to please on the tests!

Milton and Culture of Revolution is his absolute favorite class. He looks forward to this class every year so expect lots of questions and chances for participation. He is the department head, so be sure to stay on his good side if you're planning on being a major. He's very approachable and we've actually become great friends. Very inspirational.

Milton and the Culture of Revolution. Interesting class! He does a good job of making Paradise Lost accessible and thought-provoking. Would highly recommend taking this class. He's a hard grader, but very understanding and available after class.

He is rude and belittling to students. Totally unapproachable and says things to make people feel bad. Its a cowardly thing to stand infant of a group of young adults who are paying a lot of money because they want to be successful be talked down to by a grown man who gets pleasure from seeing students embarrassed and defeated by his remarks .

Comment:
He's a good professor, but lacks the ability to think past his own Ideas. He can not theorize and can only see from the point of view that he learned in his years of studies. Not to say that he isn't smart, but he will be hard for people who are not used to writing without their own ideas influencing thier papers. His feedback can be little harsh.

He is a really nice teacher and gives a reasonable amount of work. He is very understanding and answers your questions. In Intro. to Literary Studies, our grade was 20% attendance, 20% one paper,30% another paper, 20% midterm, and 20% final. Not bad overall. Papers are only 3-5 pages.

Comment:
The papers for his literary studies class are 5 page minimum, and I've concluded that it's impossible to get past an A-. I even went to him to edit my papers & he told me what to fix, but they still weren't good enough. Also, the course starts w/ little reading to A LOT. He dismisses class in disappointment if no one reads.

One of the greatest professors! He really knows the material and got me interested in all types of literature and criticism and made me think in an entirely different way. Loved classes and he was very helpful with papers outside of class if you needed him. Great sense of humor as well. I'd take another English class with him in a heartbeat.

One of the best professors I've had at Merrimack. Interesting enough to make me switch majors. Really knows his material, enough to be tapped to write a chapter in a Cambridge Companion book. Brings a fresh perspective to 18th century British literature - he even takes field trips with his class. If only more professors were like him.

He's a talker, but explains everything clearly. Friendly and approachable. The reading is light and the exams aren't too bad, though this particular course is reminiscent of 10th grade, high school english.
