I have taken Dr. Payne in voice lessons for two years now. The man is inspiring! He is so caring and understanding that he has become like a father to me. He has made me far better than I could have ever dreamed. Yes, he will push you! But if you can't take the heat then I advise changing your major because you obviously aren't cut out for music!

I loved this class, even though it was more for lower level singers. It was fun and Dr. Payne is very understanding and will do what he can to help you. But, he will yell at you to modivate you and if you can't handle a little loud difficulty I would reccomend you should just stick to singing with the radio.

AMAZING TEACHER! I don't know what all these people are talking about. He has made my voice improve x10 since I started taking his class. He is a little prima donna, but he can teach a lot. He is really intense and can be a little harsh, but that is HOW YOU LEARN. When you are pushed.

Dr. Payne doesn't care about the students at all. You have to pay for instruction with him, but he has now "hired" several students to perform for him privately. He's never yet paid any of them despite his promises.

He is very helpful for students on the beginning level for voice study. For those that are more advanced, do not waste your time. He is very impatient and really does not pay attention. You learn more from your accompanist! I do not reccomend him if you need hands on teaching.

Wow, this guy sucks. Just make sure you have a good piano player to work with. I don't know how you could not get an A with him. He doesn't pay attention anyway, so long as you pass your jury.

He is frankly the WORST voice professor you can ever have. All he does is sitting lazily at his computer, checking emails, daydreaming, and let you run through your songs with accompanist. I actually learned more from my accompanist than him. He doesn't even notice if you sing wrong notes or words.

Payne likes to sit at his computer and let the accompanist play...you sing, and he says "ok"...all while he plays on his computer or sits there with his arms crossed on his desk. getting him to help you is a trick, you have to purposefully screw up so he will work with you! i DO NOT recommend him.

You know that saying "Those who can't do, teach?" Well, I would say that Dr. Payne is a doer. Not at all good at adjusting to his students personal needs. Extremely difficult to work with. Wouldn't reccomend him at all.

Some may not agree with me, but I found Dr. Payne to be extremely unhelpful. He is not willing to talk out the difficulties you may be having. He just talks AT you instead of talking TO you. If you like feeling frustrated, go ahead and take him.

Dr. Payne is a very understanding guy. He does a great job of working with you on technique, no matter how long it takes to get it. Sure, he pushes you to your limit sometimes, but in the end it is worth it. I've learned a great deal.
