Comment:

He is a very calm, down to earth guy, but not a very good teacher. His notes have very little written info on them, mostly just pictures. It is hard to understand him during lectures. His tests had some extremely unreasonable questions based on info outside of the lecture notes! Taking this class with Hintz was my biggest mistake at Uvic so far!

Honestly the wrost teacher/prof ive ever had. can't explain simple concepts, writes exams that are unfair and unrelated to the course, is unhelpful one-on-one, talks extremely fast, has ATROCIOUS notes, and just stands up at the front and reads off his laptop. He writes nothing on the board and is super dry. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

With his teaching style, this course is a test in responsibility. The notes are pretty vague. I found the best way to study was to read the figure's description in the textbook. He is a quiet speaker, so sit close to the front. He's kind and helpful in office hours, so take advantage of them.

Really nice guy but a horrible teacher. One on one he is good at explaining but in class he quietly reads off his laptop with no indication of what is important.

This Claude Noel clone should not be taken for cell biology. So dry, can't hear him, stands and reads of his laptop, and notes have nothing but a picture. Tests were brutal and unrelated for the most part.

By far the worst prof I've ever had. He cannot communicate with students, writes unfair exams, ALWAYS confuses students, is incredibly boring, talks incredibly fast, goes off on useless tangents, and his notes are garbage. STAY AWAY. SINGLE-HANDEDLY RUINS GPAS.

Dr. Hintz informed us that his materials after the first test, and before the start of Dr. Koop's materials, would NOT be tested on the Midterm. Then, a week before the test Dr. Koop informs us that Dr. Hintz was wrong, and now all of his lectures ARE testable. Ridiculous. Don't tell us last minute that it is testable after saying they aren't

He is a downright awful teacher. He cant communicate points clearly and is extremely dry and uninteresting. His lecture slides are often unclear and very boring. He speaks very quietly and has absolutely no charisma which makes classes hard to concentrate on. His tests are at a completely different level of detail than the lectures. Horrible!!

Thought I would love cell bio, he's destroyed it for me. Midterm was unfair and the answer that HE wanted was completely out in left field. Worst lecturer I've had so far. Has completely taken away any desire I've had to study the subject.

Awful teaching style. Uses ANOTHER teachers previous lecture slides and reads them off the computer screen directly in front of him. Too quiet when talking and can't pronounce the words he's trying to read. 1st midterm was completely unfair and he didn't mention even one comment about feedback on the test/when it would be returned. Makes no effort.

Terrible teacher. Talks way too fast and slow. Said part of test would be short answer and made over half of it short/long answer. Very unclear about what is on midterm. As said, 10% of our overall mark was tested on a concept that he gave BARELY any notes on. Terrible teacher. I would NEVER take a class with him again.

Worst professor I have ever had. Impossible to listen to in class. Do not trust what he tells you to know. He put 10% of our grade in the hands of a topic he spent less than a couple minutes on in class, that wasn't in the textbook, and most of all, he told us to not worry about knowing it in detail. It would have been better to not attend class...

Worst professor i have had in biology. Notes are confusing, lectures are boring/useless. Makes simple concepts in this course beyond confusing. Midterms are terrible and have little to do with what is covered in class. Expect to teach yourself out of the textbook. This course was a horrible experience and it's coming from someone who LOVED biol 225
