Comment:

Oral exams are terrible, you have to describe the math using words and definitions of the textbook. Is not a good teacher and does not translate well to online. Her problem is that she is not clear and her notes can be confusing, as she is confusing herself. Try to take another professor.

Comment:

Dr. Velo is a very nice prof, but not necessarily the best. Her notes for the class don't completely line up with the textbook, so when having problems it can be difficult to understand the material. Nonetheless, Dr. Velo is really smart, and if you visit her office hours and spend some time reading the textbook, you will be able to pass the class.

Comment:

Being a Latin American student, I cant remember the last time I felt like I had a close relationship with a professor and classmates, but this class made me re lived that again. Professor Velo is by far one of the most caring, respectful, nice, and helpful professor Ive ever had at USD. Id definitely take this class again! Love her

Comment:

Dr. Velo is a nice lady and tries really hard to make sure students succeed. But regardless, this class was one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. Very unclear during lectures and explains topics in ways nobody understands. Tests /quizzes are incredibly difficult and she doesn't curve. Grades HW on correctness. Office hours kind of help but eh

Velo is a very sweet lady and actually cares about her students' success. She is very accessible and has very long office hours, even if you don't go she will answer any question you ask in class. A lot of quizzes and is tough grader for showing work and sometimes will answer a question 4 times and no one understands still. Do hw and will be fine

Dr. Velo is the nicest lady ever. She wants everyone to succeed and tries her best to make class interesting and fun. She makes herself very available during office hours and tries to help you do well in the class as much as she can. She is also very passionate about math. Take her class!!

Comment:

Velo is one of the sweetest and funniest people I've ever met. She really wants to help you learn and tries to make homework and grading easy. However, her tests are unintentionally really hard, and her lectures are dry and difficult to understand. She really wants the class to be easy, but you end up doing a lot of extra work.

I really, really wanted to like this professor because I can tell she's a good person, but she isn't a good teacher. Her grading criteria is unclear at best, unknowable at worst. For some reason, she asks you to not memorize formulas, but "derive" them. That just doesn't make sense, especially on exams. Don't take her if you care about your grade.

I think Velo is a nice person. Shes really sweet and kind of funny, but she just doesnt know how to teach very well. Shes pretty scatter-brained and just wants to read off PowerPoints all class. Youre honestly better off just learning the class material by yourself. Also, her tests are super hard.

The midterms were rough and I was really worried going into the final, but if you go to office hours and show her you're trying my grade ended up being way higher than expected because she curves a lot in the end. Very sweet lady just sometimes all over the place during class

Comment:

Velo is super nice, funny and caring! It is obvious she wants her students to succeed. She was a tough teacher to follow, however. Her lectures barely taught me anything for the tests, as I would go back and teach myself everything after the lesson. Average amount of hmwk considering it is a math class, quizzes are frequent.

Don't be scared about the negative reviews. To be in Calc 2, you have to know your basic trig, log rules, etc. Going into calc you shouldn't expect it to be a walk in the park. She's very helpful during office hours and she is a lovely woman!

She is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and wants you to pass. She assigns one homework assignment for each section but it's only odd numbers so you can look up the answers. If you are willing to put in the effort and do your homework, you will be fine. She is also very big on class participation and partial credit.

Amazing Professor! Wish she would teach more upper division classes. Very clear, hilarious and helpful! Homework is a lot of work, but is easy. You can drop about 3 Quizes. If you listen to her and do hw, it will be an easy A with a good quality of knowledge.

Comment:

Frustrating. Horrible lecturer, had to learn most of the material on my own. Dr. Velo obsesses over small things like the amount of time left in class (down to the second) and often spent time telling us that we were all immature and unprepared for college instead of actually teaching. Expect tests to be much harder than anything covered in class.

Honestly she has unreal expectation because she expects all of her students to be just as smart as she is. She has an accent so it's tough to understand her, plus when she explains things that confuse you, she will get upset at you for not listening. If it weren't for help, I would not have survived her course. Avoid her if you possibly can.

Very nice Dr. Do the homework and you will be fine. Homework is not heavy compared to other professors. She gives a lot partial credit. She does her best in explaining and makes sure everybody understands and she goes very slowly over lessons. In my class no one got below C but one student got a D and was very neglectful.

Comment:

Velo is a pretty solid teacher. Some of her methods of teaching are a little confusing, but overall she does a great job of getting you to where you need to be. If you take notes in class and actually complete the homework you'll do fine. The homework she assigns is always odd-numbered problems also so you can always check the back of the book.
