I had her for an online course. Her directions are contradictory and useless. She wants your opinion with justification then gives you a failing grade for providing it. Worst teach I have ever had at IUP. I do not recommend taking her class to anyone EVER!!!!!

I do not like Barb classes. I can tell she used to really be on top of her game, but she's been at IUP for about 30 years. Much of her teaching style is out of date. She is a wonderful director and person, but as a professor, not so great. She is willing to help outside of class.

NEVER take her for an online course. She was completely unprepared to teach and did not help her students at all. She takes points off for your own opinions and it is very hard to ever get a good grade on her assignments. All of her directions are very confusing and when you ask her to clarify what she means, she just repeats herself.AWFUL teacher!

Agree that she is disheartening. Somehow manages to convince her students that she knows the way to success but many of her students give up acting before they are out the door. Never again.

tough on students, but b/c of that you'll leave her class feeling like you learned a lot. You have to work hard to get an A, she will not just hand it to you. She is available to help anytime you need it, so give her class your all, and get her help when needed, and you should be golden. If you are serios about theatre, you should take her class.

Disheartening. Does nothing to encourage students to succeed. Has a ridgid understanding of the arts and has no room for other opinions. Openly cruel to her students, except for favorites. The most discouraging professor I have ever had. Cannot think of a single positive word.

I only had her for 5 days for the Punxsy summer program for the intro to the arts class and i enjoyed her class. She took us to see Around the World in 80 Days. I really enjoyed her class. Does alot of stuff with groups though. Exam was semi-easy.

I had Barb many years ago and she was challenging back then. I pursued some acting in NYC after graduation and her classes provided the experience I needed for performing in small theatre groups.

She is not easy; ask anyone. I don't agree with everything she says, but I did learn a lot from this class. Don't expect an easy grade, however. This was her first go at the class, and she did so pretty well. She could stand to be a little less harsh at times, but take the criticism and try to get something from it.

Extremely helpful! Barb is there when you need her assistance. Very demanding, but you learn so much! GO TO CLASS & BE ON TIME/PREPARED! Doesn't like the opposite. Loves it when you make choices in monos. This class is not for slackers! Every actor should take this course!

Barb is a really nice lady. She is tough, though, so be sure you know that you can balance the workload. Completely worth it, though- she knows her stuff.

You know she's difficult when people gasp upon hearing you have a "Barb" class. Big, difficult assignments and tough critique. Not for the faint of heart, but you'll learn a lot about Stanislavski if you survive.
