Reading some of the reviews, I was expecting the worst, but it was easy to get along with the professor, and I found her way of teaching useful. I liked the in-class activities, and discussions to keep the class engaged. Overall, the class is not hard *if you have a solid base in rhetoric*, but get ready to write a lot!

the teacher is not hard but required a lot of writing. each essay should be at least 6 pages!!! she is helpful and understanding sometimes. a lot of focusing on grammar!! her attendance is mandatory

I dreaded taking a speech class but I am actually really glad I took it finally. Yes she gives some work but its college and I was taking 6 other classes and was still able to get all the work done and have fun in the class. Very nice and helpful. I would def recommend her for anyone needing a speech class.

This teacher is horrible. It is a speech class, but requires tons of online hw, research papers, and speechs. She is very unclear about online assignments and does not tell u when they are do. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!

Mrs. Petrides is a very good speech instructor. She takes her time to explain the assignments fully. She grades fairly and understands that working in teams is difficult sometimes. You can tell she sincerely loves teaching. Don't think twice about taking her class...just do it.

She is a nice lady and for the most part, knows her information. She gives a lot of work compared to other speech classes and is a pretty hard grader. All of the tests are open note, but the answers are hard to find with her nothes. The speeches are graded fairly hard. overall, the class was ok. Rarely interactive and fun, but it is informational.

She's a really nice lady! Really helpful and sweet. You write a research paper in her class and if yours is good, you can sign up for the Beacon Contest (which will be at MC in '09). If you make it to the finales, it's loads of fun and a really nice experience!

Such a hard grader. She is like a h.s. teacher,Very Bitter and cold hearted. I thought I was one of the best students in her class and I got a C. I feel like i was robbed i prob. had a 79 and a half and she gave me the C. Now I am the bitter one! thanks Mrs. Petrides

If you can - avoid her like the plague!!! She is nice, but the work load is crazy. Be prepared to write a 10-12 page research paper and at least 5 speeches. She gives very little feedback on ways you can improve. There are alot of notes!!!

Just finished speech with this professor and she is a million times better than the other speech teacher, Prof. Coley. Definitely take her if you can! The speeches are not hard, the only hard thing about the class were the tests and they're open note. Make sure to take lots of notes and even try to make up study guides from the book if you can.

Her open book tests are the hardest ever! She gives like 7 speeches throughout the semester. 1 intro. speech, 1 book speech, 1 research speech, 1 informative, 1 debate, 1, persuasive, 1 group final speech. Very nice lady but WAY too much work. Take another speech teacher if you can

Petrides is a nice lady, class consists of her speaking with powerpoint for your notes. Tests were hard and she looks for improvement in speaking throughout the semester. Make sure to look at her speech critiques she gives back for way to improve or get same grade again. Final was a group speech.

She is a very nice lady. She gives the hardest tests ever, have you ever heard of "multiple multiple test questions"? She is a fair grader when it comes to your speeches and she is so relaxed about any topic you decide to speak about. But her lectures are boring and full of stuff I do not remember

The class emphasized too much on communication theory and not public speaking. It was too much work for a three credit class.Doesn't provide rubric for the speech and gives little feedback on how you should improve for your next speech. The extra work seemed too distracting from the class' objective
