I have learned so much about culture, literature, language, history, philosophy, psychology, and, yes, even life from Dr. Wickham. In class, you were expected to come having read the material in advance and then be prepared to discuss said material. This is an excellent foundation for graduate level courses, where the same is expected of students

Boring class, the play's were interesting but it was a waste of time to show up to class. He's also not very direct about how the essay's should be written. Four essays (500 words), term paper (8 pages), 5 quizzes, one midterm and one final. So if you think this just a blow off class than you are mistaken especially if you are a full time student.

Probably one of the best professors at UTSA. He is not harsh on grading at all and usually gives you a chance to correct papers for a higher grade after he gives feedback. Wickham is always ready to help and his personality makes the class fun. When he's really into the topic he will start singing which could last up to 5 minutes. Great professor!

Interesting class on mostly classic German film. You need to pay attention during the film. One long writting/comparison as part of the project. Weekly critiques of films watched. No book required.

another review said "he's a sweet, adorable little man who is approachable and fun to listen to!" and they couldn't be more correct. Only he is also incredibly knowledgeable. This film class had some great films and some O.K. films, but none of the films were bad or terribly boring. I would recommend this class to anyone who likes classic film.

Amazing professor who knows his German.Very organized and helpful. The class gets kind of boring when people aren't willing to discuss;but he puts people into discussion groups which makes it fun. Quizzes are simple because it's from the material that you need to read and the stories are interesting with his British accent when he reads out loud.

An excellent professor! His lectures consist of going over graded assignments and the short stories read for homework. The only time the class got "boring" was when no one bothered to interact with the lecture. He is very easy to approach if you have any questions or concerns at all. He is also very clear in his responses.

I took him for GER LIT with ENG translation. He is a wise instructor. He expects a lot from you. His lectures were interesting and knowledgeable. He grades fairly. This course requires an understanding to each and every text and poem pertaining to GER LIT. Attendance is mandatory. 6 absenses=A to a B. I had a blast! I recommend him.

This professor was awesome! He was teaching a Film and upper level German class simultaneously and managed it in an organized fashion. Because he had personal insight into Germany and the culture, he was able to make much of the course content more understandable. Plus, he's a sweet, adorable little man who is approachable and fun to listen to!

You would be hard pressed to find a better professor - in any field. I became a German major because of Chris Wickam. His knowledge and insight on the subject matter in his courses are without parallel. Dr. Wickham also displays understanding and kindness to his students that is unmatched at UTSA. Ultimately, he invokes a true desire to learn.

He is the sweetest old man ever. He tries so hard to help you out and brings examples/props like show & tell to help you learn & remember things. There is a quiz every other week as well as a test. Attendance is mandatory because after 3 unexcused, he drops a letter grade. You have to read your book & go to the labs.

I was not at all interested in linguistics. But Dr. Wickham really piqued my interest in this field and now I am completely captivated by it. I loved his clear, crisp British accent, even though German is his main area. He is extremely upbeat and is a genuinely nice man. I loved his class.

I took one class with him in 1996. Awesome teacher! Classy, understated, and crystal clear in his lectures. Made learning german enjoyable. Very tech savvy as well (showed us how to use lynx to browse the WWW). Interetsing how all the german profs at UTSA seem to live in New Braunfels.
