Class is super dry. We were suppose to talk about human exploration, but instead talked about Antarctica the whole time, because he went there.Study guides are pointless. You basically have to write down word for word what he's saying to survive the class-that's the thing, he's the only teacher I had this term that just does exams and lectures.

He is very knowledgeable about geology. The class is pretty easy if you take notes during his lectures and then work through the study guides. He is a nice man and makes great sound effects when describing volcanic eruptions.

Let me get this straight, if you arent used to attending class or paying attention, then dont take this class. If you are OK with paying attention and taking notes, all you have to do is study a day before the test. Got an A. 4 Exams (best 3 count). Study guides are helpful, but u have to fill out most of the info on them yourself.

Tests are straightforward and mostly memorization, vocabulary, and significance. Though I can say that there was always about 3-5 people that slept in his class because his lectures are not the most exciting in the world. Nap time.

This class was cotaught with Jennifer Patience, and Dr. Stump covered the geology portion. He was very enthusiastic about his lectures, which was good since they mostly consisted of definitions (which could get pretty dry). He had a lot of cool pictures from around the globe though.

Had him for SES101/102. He really loves Geology and gets into his lectures/examples. He's very knowledgable and the tests are fair. Do the study guides, ask him for help on the ones you don't know (he's happy to go over it), and you'll do fine! I would certainly recommend him.

Fun professor and interesting topic (exploration). His lectures cover everything you need to know, so textbooks aren't really needed. Attendance isn't technically required, but he takes random quizzes (5) for attendance points. Drops an exam and they aren't very difficult if you listen in class and study. He is secretly a hippy and a GREAT guy =]

I was in his SES 101 course and it was co-taught by him and Professor Steve Desch. (This course combines astronomy and geology in one). His lectures are very clear and he posts them online. He also provides a lot of pictures for the class so we understand the concepts better. Nice guy, great teacher.

Goofy and funny professor that loves Geology, big nerd. His test are a challenge because of the amount of material covered and all the terminology. But, he does provide an outline for notes. You'll need to read and expand on them to get an A on tests. In my class he did allow a card of notes that comes in handy. His pop quizzes were EXTREMELY easy.

Took it for Summer 1. Dropped class because of his test. 3 Tests were the whole grade in the class. His test was extremely hard and he didn't explain it very well before hand. Offers no extra credit. Nice guy though.

Great prof! The class is easy if you come and study hard for tests. Students that thought it was hard seemed to be those from non-science majors who are apparently not used to working hard/studying for class. (by the way, the following comment is NOT true. Stump does curve grades. 12 ppl got 100% on the 3rd exam; he wants to see students do well)

terrible class, incredibly hard. he is a nice guy but extremly mysterious about his exams, never too sure what he wants exactly, this was the first time this class was taught, he made up a lot of material all the way through the semester, tests are HARD, the average for his exams were from 55%-60% all semester and no curving, would not recomend him

Great guy who loves what he does. Go to class and take notes on outline he gives you. Then use notes to fill in study guide he gives you. Test questions come straight from guide. Really pretty simple. 3 exams + final, can drop 1 of 4, so don't have to take cumulative final. Talks about dinosaurs and colliding continents: quite interesting, really.

He is one of the best professors. He is funny and you can tell he his passionate about geology. He even crawled on the floor to demenstrate the difference between the way reptiles and amphibians walked. Attendance isnt required but all the lecture notes are on the test. And there are super easy pop quizzes if you attend. He's a great professor!

Great Professor. Loves his students and wants them to do well. You have to study. Read his study guides you'll learn more than if you read the book. One of the few real human beings left on the planet of academia.

Lectures are on the boring side, but he's very helpful during office hours. Don't miss lectures; sometimes, he'll go through things in lecture that aren't in the book. He's very clear on what he expects from you. If you go through the study guides he hands out during class, you should be able to get a decent score on the exam.

booooooooooring subject but he did try and make the class lively and fun (he didn't succeed) and his passion for the subject matter came through, loves pop quizzes, very fair grading system, basically if you do the work you'll get the grade
