Comment:

Dr. Tyburczy is a very nice man and a great human being, but his class is structured very poorly. Lectures are next to useless as he repeats everything that was assigned for homework, and the tests are a lot of work and require a lot of memorization. He explains everything well, but it's not interesting enough to show up to class every time.

Comment:

As much as a nice man Professor Tyburczy is, his lectures are incredibly boring (unless youre into geology). I took this class as i need a science credit and thought this would be easy. It wasnt. You have to memorize 8 concept sketches and only 2 are on the exam. If you do good on at least 1 question each exam and do homework, you should get a B.

Comment:

Pretty easy class, all things considered. There are a lot of online assignments, but they're really easy and will help boost your grade. The hardest parts of the class are the exams. He gives you 8 sketches to learn and only quizes you on 2. If you get good grades on the exams and do your online homework, you'll easily get at least a B.

Comment:

Generally a really easygoing class, however be prepared to have a lot of online assignments, but if you can be consistent in completing those on time and make an attempt to memorize what's needed for the concept sketch exams you'll easily do well. His lectures are pretty boring but I recommend showing up as he sometimes has surprise in class work.

The final is a mix of the two other exams in class. Make sure you don't miss in class activities since that can really make or break your grade. DSM isn't a good study tool. Go through the lectures and hope for the best!

The overall class is interesting and very informative. He posts all the lectures online too, but he does random attendances throughout the semester. Each week there is either easy online homework, an easy blackboard quiz, or a pretty difficult homework assignment. His two exams are difficult, but he curves and also does an optional final!

The in-class lectures are quite boring tbh, maybe because my major was not science. Tests based of diagrams and sketches so print them out and memorize them. Alot of Hw, Quizzes and Investigations so I recommend do them all at the beginning of the semester. There are random in-class activities but the points given are adjusted througout.

Comment:

Tyburczy's lectures and really boring. His class is not important but does take attendance. Do all the learn smarts, investigations, practices, and quizzes and you will get an A in the class. I averaged C's on my concept maps and I got an A. Just study the short maps. The long maps are never on there.

very nice professor and the class is basically all online. The tests are complete memorization which is kind of annoying but definitely easy if you just study the diagrams. A lot of weekly assignments that are easy but take time.

Really not a hard class, I don't see how anyone can't pass the class as long as you show up for the tests and do the homework & quizzes which are all online. I never showed up to lecture at all, missed all of the in class points, got 50% on two out of four of the tests, and still got a B in the class. Recommend if you're looking for easy SQ cred.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It is impossible, the lecture is boring and a repeat of what you teach yourself on the online homework. Such a waste of a class and the exams are impossible! He expects you to memorize 10 pages of sketches when only 2 are going to be on the test. DO NOTTT TAKE HIM

I took Tyburczy for GLG101. The class was super easy. All assignments were online, except for four concept sketches (exams) which you could memorize in a couple hours. He gave points for going to lectures, but his lectures are extremely long and dull.

Comment:

Professor Tyburczy is a great guy, he will always help when needed and is incredibly understanding. All quizzes are online, straight from the book and are fairly easy. Attendance is not mandatory but he occasionally gives in class points. Tests are incredibly tough and requires a lot of memorization, but he is a pretty easy grader.

This professor is phenomenal. He knew the answer to all the questions presented in lecture, but guides you into answering them yourself. Sure he goes off powerpoint, but he uses them as more of a starting point. If you reveal to him that you're serious, you will enjoy class with him.

Tyburczy is a good professor. The online work isn't too bad - just use the book. There are only a few tests, which consist of 2 concept sketches. Just memorize the pictures and youre golden. He reads the power points in class so attendance is not mandatory. He loves geology though, so he knows what he is talking about!

Professor Tyburczy is a great professor. Yea he just reads off of the powerpoints so you dont really need to be in class, but you can tell how much he loves geology. His class is kind of boring, there isn't homework. There is work online each week and then concept sketches every few weeks. I would recommend this professor and I hate geology :-P

Class is really boring and there is really no reason to go. But this class is extremely easy, you only have to do a quiz and investigation each week that takes an hour. But the tests do require A LOT of studying, just do the drawings ahead of time, it is all memorization. He curves all tests, and the grades in the end a ton.

Textbook is 100% necessary. I think a lot of people on here are blaming the Tyburczy for... teaching geology. His lectures are very comprehensive with the book, and as long as you start doing the 'test drawings' ahead of time, you will be fine. Yes he asks you to memorize all 10, and only asks for 2, but tough luck.

if you are taking this course simply for science gen ed requirements DON'T. I am taking it just for general ed credits because GLG is supposedly the easier of the options, don't take this teacher! he makes you memorize 3x as many sketches per exam as the other teachers. he is ridiculously hard for a 101. take any of the other teachers
