Great teacher. Somewhat of a tough grader but her tests and quizzes were a walk in the park if you did the assigned homework. She was great in office hours. Unfortunately I don't think Ellen teaches anymore, but if you see her teaching a class you need to take, I would highly suggest taking her.

Caldwell was awesome. I took her last summer for 189 and have never done better in a math class in my life. She does an excellent job teaching, with both explaining concepts/rules and doing example problems. Tests were relevant to what we learned and never more than moderately challenging-IMO. Take her if you can.

Best math teacher I've had. Amazing at explaining things conceptually. Very balanced teaching style. Cool and easy to get along with. Always looking to help students and has accessible office hours. Not the fairest grader. The exams were realistic, no tricks. Quiz every class period. Challenging class. Ask for help you'll find yourself succeeding.

Caldwell was great. Her lectures will work perfectly for you if you prefer a lot of examples. She's very smart and has an analytical mind, perfect for math. She is very good at explaining things, but most importantly makes herself available. She showed up to our class room an hour early for office hours to help students. Great teacher.

I took her over the summer and never came home and completed the homework as if I understand the materiel I just "learned". Maybe her lectures work for some people. She teaches quick and does not associate things well. Everything felt scattered. She Will go over a topic very, very, verrryy briefly that you have 5+ HW problems on. What a joke.

Comment:
Incredibly difficult and goes way too quickly through lectures. She grades her exams very anally, marking off way too many points for the smallest mistakes. I do not know how her rating is this good; do not take her class unless you're ready to work VERY hard for a passing grade.

Ellen Caldwell is an excellent instructor. Her lectures are lightning quick which can be frustrating at times, but she really does an excellent job of explaining things, and is willing to answer questions in detail. There is a quiz at the beginning of EVERY class, so it is really important to stay on top of the material.

I found this class rather difficult. Math has always been my best subject but I had issues grasping the material. She's a good teacher but she goes through the lessons really fast and rarely gives the class examples to solve during class. My suggestion is use the book and study from besides your notes. I managed to bring my grade up from a D to a B

Notes & method of teaching were very clear. You can easily follow her & understand the material. When it comes to the test good luck! extremely difficult, straight As this semester & i failed this. When I easily put 2-4hrs daily to read the chapter myself & learn the material. If you care about your GPA skip.

Took Calc 2&3 from Ellen. She is far and away the best math teacher I have ever had. The clarity of her explanations is second to none, and I have never seen a teacher with better skills at the board. Be prepared to earn your grade. If it is covered in class, you will see it on the test. Also, be prepared for a special project of some kind.

I am a straight A student, yet currently have a D in her class. She assigns a lot of homework from the textbook and workbook, which is fine. But her tests? REALLY hard. She gives the hardest questions in the book. She is a cruel teacher; when she was giving back the tests, she told the entire class right away we all are terrible. Do not take her!

I second the post just below me. I've gotten all A's for the past 4 semesters, and managed to pull off a B in her class. She is a very good teacher, but the way she tests and grades is way too harsh for anyone who cares at all about his GPA. She is extremely stingy with points, does not curve, and takes attendance everyday. Good luck!

I was a straight A student until I had her class... Her tests are out-rageous and she gives you the hardest questions possible. She is not a approachable teacher. She gives a ton of homework and the work she shows she does in her head and does not show you step by step approach. DO NOT TAKE HER!

She is one of the finest mathematics teachers I have come across. Her notes are, indeed, clear as crystal. Yes, she is hard, but she is willing to help students along if they ask.

She teaches very clearly, but has very tough grading on tests and homework. Luckily, her finals are sometimes comprehensive and can replace the grade of a former bad test grade. That's how I went from a D to a B in the class just from the final. She will make you work hard for an A.

EXCELLENT TEACHER! Lectures easy to follow but she goes very quick though the problems. Worksheets (take home quiz) every week with VERY DIFFICULT problems. The exams are VERY DIFFICULT, she seems to want to try to tip you up but I don’t think it’s intentional. Keep up with the homework and you should be ok. No Curve and <5% extra credit available.

I took her Trig and Calc. Best math teacher I've ever had! I would definitely recommend! DO THE WKSTS. You should do the homework and find study partners. Tests are hard but no real surprises. She's not boring unless you simply don't care.I got an A in Trig. Looks like I'll get a B in Calc. Math isn't my enemy anymore! Don't debate, just take her.

The fifth math teacher I've taken a class from at Pima, and Caldwell has been my favorite. She's very organized, teaches the material as clearly as possible, yet is more than willing to answer questions during class or office hours. She isn't the easiest teacher out there, but won't waste your time with busy work.
