Im going to save you all right now by telling you not to take this class, especially if you hate homework. This was NOT an English class, we discussed one topic the entire time. He educated us on the topic more than english itself. He strongly pushed his liberal agenda and basically called anyone who didnt agree with him an idiot. DONT recommend

Alright, the grade I received was a loathsome C. The reason I received a C is for not doing many of the peer evaluation on the rough drafts on the essays, these are worth a significant amount of points. I received B or better on all my essays but the missing peer evaluations damaged my grade. What I am trying to say is please do the rough drafts!!!

He was very snarky and acted as if he was superior to all his students. He grades based on what you wrote not how you wrote it. There's a lot of reading for the homework and we only did one topic the whole quarter, it got very frustrating. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

This is a solid professor who expects the work to be put in. The issue is that a lot of community college students aren't looking for an enormous challenge so this can definitely catch people off guard. If you come in ready to learn and keep an open mind, in addition to putting in lots of work, you can get a good grade. There is a lot of homework!

I would appreciate a professor that thoughtfully critiques. Dolman does not critique he condescendingly criticizes. unclear grading expectations. Does not offer constructive feedback. Vague and unclear assignment prompts. Overall does not seem to care about his online students just throws us in the water to sink or swim.

This class discouraged me quite a bit. It definitely improved my English skills and taught me to write objectively, but Dolmans is very honest. Brutally honest. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you're sensitive this professor isn't the one for you.

Gerard was not a good prof. He graded on the subject matter rather than the actual English. If you choose to write about something he doesn't agree with, you will not get a good grade on the essay. I went from having straight A's in high school to not getting an A on a single essay in his class. RUNNING START I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I attended daily and worked my butt off (and I got an A). However, it was extremely frustrating. Unclear grading guidelines. Constantly fluctuating expectations. I am an English person. Jared recognized that I could write well, but he didn't give me feedback to improve to get the product he was looking for. Condescending towards young students.

All I have to say is I will never take him again. He helped me write a basic paper, helped me narrow down my creative thinking. (Not diverse) only thinks one way and if you dont think that way he automatically becomes stubborn with you. He talks about home life more than necessary, and I just want to learn. Do not take him.

This entire quarter, we had to write multiple papers on the same subject and we didnt get to ever broaden our writing prompts or anything. Gerard grades extremely harsh and talks too much about his personal life and can be extremely inconsiderate towards students. He gives me creepy vibes, I dont recommend taking his class at all.

During one point of the quarter I began wondering if he was actually an English prof as he did not know how to spell, the things he said were all over the place, his grading was based off of pure opinion and not evidence. He let his personal life get in the way, telling us about drinking beer and procrastinating on our grades. (Do NOT take him)

Professor Dolmans is a tough grader but if you listen to his corrections your grade will improve. If you go to his office hours and develop a relationship the quarter will be more enjoyable. He did give an optianal extra credit assignment and a chance to revise an essay. I really enjoyed the class and having this professor.

I think that if youre used to getting anything above a B+ get ready to be challenged, you might get a b or lower, he grades harder than any other teacher Ive ever had. I did learn a bunch of stuff in his course, and hes actually a good teacher, just a very tough grader.

There is no clear requirnments & even when you write exactly what he said to you get a low grade. When he grades your papers he will cut points no matter how well written & doesn't give a solid answer for why. I'm an A-B student & couldn't make this one work. When signing up for this class, realize you won't get a solid A regardles of the effort.

Gerard has interesting and thoughtful lectures, but the kind of writing he values forces you to strip your essays of any sort of detail and pretty language. He likes straight-to-the-point writing which was difficult for me, and took me awhile to figure out because his feedback is somewhat harsh rather than constructive and helpful.

I took his class for my first semester of running start and I enjoyed his class. I've always enjoyed English class and writing. However, if you don't like writing papers then I would advise against this class. He grades very harshly and his handwritten feedback is virtually illegible. Attendance is not mandatory but you will suffer without it.
