Comment:

English used to be my favorite subject, and taking it with her made me dread going to class. She gives a rubric and then doesn't grade by it, and no matter how hard I worked with her or tried to meet with her to go over things, it didn't help. She straight-up told me I wouldn't pass the class, and doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner.

Honestly, worst teaching experience Ive ever had. She made this class miserable and I usually LOVE English. I hated this class so much to the point I stopped going. She really made me feel like an idiot. I knew even if I did try, Id fail anyway. She doesnt email back at all AND doesnt allow any wiggle room for mistakes. DONT TAKE HER!

the low amount of positive reviews are from the few students she likes a semester, i can guarantee that. this class is a nightmare and i barely passed even though i worked my butt off and had other english majors/ profs look at my papers before i submitted them to geri. save your self esteem by not taking her class and thank me later

I took one of my papers I wrote to the learning center 3 times, the writing center once, and I had a different English professor check my grammar and spelling. I turned it into Geri and she gave me a C-. No matter how hard I worked, I never got higher than a C on a paper. This prof expects you to be an actual author. strong recommend to avoid!

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. please listen lol there are so many other great english teachers, especially for 104. The only people on who say they liked her are because they were her favorites. I am a pretty decent writer and I got a D on a paper solely because I messed up my citations. this is a HUGE WARNING: don't. take. her. class.

Beware, I repeat beware. This is the worst teacher at BSU. She gets off topic with each point she makes, makes students feel uncomfortable and almost EVERY single thing leads to her esteemed knowledge of negro league baseball. She doesn't help the students get better, she only expects you to be a professional in writing papers. Avoid this class!!!!

Unpopular opinion: I actually loved Geri's class and she gave me amazing feedback on my papers. I find her to be a very funny lady. HOWEVER, if you don't already have some writing experience under your belt do not take her class. She expects you to know a lot but if you write about things that interest her she will grade your papers easier.

All she talks about is her knowledge of Negro League Baseball. There is a writing assignment due every class literally. She talks from the start of class until the last 15 minutes. The only goofd thing about her is she designed our assignments to be focused towards our major.

Rude. Talks about herself constantly. Makes uncalled for comments to students about how smart they are. Refuses to put directions to her assignments on blackboard so half of the class does it wrong the first time. She does a poor job of explaining directions and doesnt let students finish the paper they are writing before starting a new one.

she is SUCH a rough grader. I've always been told I write decent papers and that doesn't seem to be the case here. I received a D on a paper mostly because my APA format citing was incorrect. She heavily nitpicks grammar and little things like grammar and docks points harshly rather than the actual content in the essay. Good luck if you have her

I have never gotten below a B+ on a paper and so far I have gotten a C- and a D, thats after taking it to the learning center and her conference. She grades very very hard. She is also very rude and doesn't care about anyones feelings but her own. I have never disliked a professor more she gives me so much anger. She also talks about baseball 24/7

Geri is a really nice woman but she does get off topic a lot, mostly about baseball. She grades pretty harshly, so if you aren't confident in your writing abilities i wouldn't really recommend her. However, she is easily accessible out of class and is willing to help edit your papers before turning them in most of the time.

I think this might possibly be one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. Every single lecture she gets off topic with each point she makes, and almost EVERY single thing leads to baseball. She also doesn't teach the class or even try to help the student become a better writer, which is the point of a English class. Not recommended at all!

She is super boring and super rude. Told me that I would never make it in my field because my writing sucked. Also yelled at me and my friend in the class for not paying attention when that's all we do. Takes FOREVER to grade so watch out for that. Thinks she tells you things when she doesn't. All around just don't take her courses.

I'm in one of her classes now and she is the worst teacher I've ever had. I am considering dropping the course because she is a hard grader and is also rude with her comments on my papers. I am in her class to learn and that is made difficult since she rarely stays on topic. If you are considering taking her class do yourself a favor and don't.
