Comment:
Butera is great! He is very knowledgeable and has lots of expertise in his field. He is very vague in lecture and often jumps around or does not explain things clearly. However, if you ask him to explain something, he will not stop trying until you understand. He really cares about his students and their success. Get to know him; very interesting.

I had Dr. Butera for a summer research program at Carnegie Mellon University. He is the most inspiration human being and changed the lives of those around him. Due to his nurturing persona and quick wit, countless students have decided to pursue a career in physical chemistry. Obviously, he is the greatest professor I have ever had.

Dr. Butera was a great professor. He really cares about his students and is helpful. He really knows this stuff and is willing to help you understand it too. Of course this class is hard...it is Physical Chemistry. It is a difficult subject and requires time to master. This was one of my favorite classes at Pitt! I got an A.

Impossible to understand and follow; talks in circles and on tangents. Old and boring. Doesn't care about students' success/failure. Selected textbook is absolutely no help either - skips major math procedures; homework problems impossible to figure out and not represented by any of the chapter examples. Absolute worst professor I have had ever.

Dr. Butera's class is definitely NOT easy, but approachable if you study really hard! Not the best lecturer, but obviously knowledgeable, cares about his students, and very helpful if you ever need it! Depend on a lot of independent studying and a huge curve if you want to pass this class!

Dr. Butera was a great prof. for P. Chem 2. His lectures were interesting and informative. The man know everything about thermodynamics and is helpful if you ask questions. The text is also very helpful in clearing up concepts.
