Comment:
Dr. Bean is very nice but not very engaging. His class runs long and it's pretty boring. Although an A isn't impossible, you will have to do numerous rewrites on a boring topic to get it. Dr. Bean is a really nice guy and he's very intelligent, but he made writing very boring. If possible, avoid this class.

Bean is easy if you don't mind rewriting every paper multiple times for an A. Gave me a C on every paper and it took me 4-5 times to get an A as well as many conferences with him. class is very boring and I didn't ever see the point in going. Overall boring class and picky grader. Take another professor.

Great class. Teacher clearly explains assignments and requirements. 3 major papers (4-7pgs), 6ish 1pg reflections, and a final "speech" comprise the grade. Major papers can be resubmitted until you get an A. Prof very helpful, wants to get to know you and wants you to do well. Likes you to be timely and participatory. Interesting freshman seminar.

I took Bean for a Shakespeare class and loved it. He is a very animated professor who enjoys spurring class discussion rather than straight lecturing. Lots of interesting articles to read and talk about. THe class itself is not terribly hard. Show up, do the reading, give a damn, and you'll pass.

Required Eng 110 class, he lets you revise and re-turn in your papers. Final is only turning in a portfolio of all the papers completed as well as a final paper and a reflection essay. If you don't manage your time well, it is difficult. Overall an easy class.

Ugh, worst professor in the SU English department. Thinks he's god's gift to writing academic papers(even wrote a book about it) and expects everyone to write exactly in that manner and cough up all the drivel he drops in class. Not a thinking student's teacher by any stretch.

I love this guy! And that means something considering that fact that I had TWO 12-page papers for his class. You wouldn't be in 332 if you weren't an English major and he let's you know what he expects. This class isn't about rehashing the high school 5 paragraph essay. Instead, he's entertaing & challenges you to be a literary critic. GREAT class.

So incredibly unclear with his expectations and then totally subjective (without explanation) in his grading. Also, tended to give too much personal information that rather than make us feel we could trust him, just kind of creeped us out.
