Comment:

If you are thinking of taking MATH 101 do not take it in person. It is a waste of your time. The class is taught in a computer lab with virtually no instruction and you work yourself through the module. The ALEKS program does a terrible job teaching new lessons. Professor Thom is super enthusiastic but the class itself needs to be restructured.

She made the class feel dumber than it was. It was not a hard class but she would explain basic things like how to divide by 2. I often left class feeling like she thought I was stupid because that's how she treats students. Messes up a lot.

Sweet lady and is very clear. She goes over everything in class, but the online h/w is the most important to do. She gives extra credit all the time during class. If you show up and want to learn you will do fine.

This class is very easy!! The teacher is very sweet and makes her self very available to help students. All the homework is online so there is no textbook and she posts plenty practice problems before the tests.

She is a nice teacher usually has a lot of energy and quirky aswell. She spends class 50/50 going over Hw and next days Hw. Homework is all online. There is no book. There are 4/5 tests and the lowest one is dropped. This class is very do able.

Boring, boring class. Sweet professor, very accommodating. Always offers to help during office hours. Easy, if you get basic concepts. Honestly, I learned more on the online mandatory homework assignments than in class because it was that boring. Overall, at least she's not hard to deal with.

Homework online is ridiculous, YOU DO NOT LEARN. I can not pay attention for more than 5 minutes with her. She teaches like she is teaching kindergarten. The whole thing is just pointless. She is a nice person, but as a professor.. not so good.

She teaches from right to left and not left to right, therefore taking notes in class can be highly distracting, because it is the opposite direction of which we read. She teaches to the ceiling, takes attendance every day and doesn't allow you to bring your computer, even though your homework is online and you could want to bring it up for help.

Not the best if you already know math. if you don't, she is clear but when you do the homework on line, they teach you a totally different way of doing the problems. very rude towards the class and talks to the ceiling when she explains things. things she is so clever, but really...isn't. and for heaven sakes. DONT BRING YOUR COMPUTER.

She moves way too fast and jumps between different topics. Doesn't get students involved with lessons, just works out the problems on the board as fast as she can. Assigns homework but only grades certain problems, usually ones that are time consuming or difficult. She will help you if you visit her office though, which may be necessary.

I found Dr. Thom to be a fairly difficult teacher, she was very unresponsive to emails for help. The CofC math lab was the only thing keeping me from failing her class! I wouldn't recommend taking her class while taking other harder courses, you'll have to devote a good bit of time.

She is hard, moves very fast. The learning center in the library is keeping me a float in her class right now. I'm fighting NOT to fail. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Thom is you are not strong in math.

She is the nicest math teacher you will ever meet. I took her for math 303 and it was easy. She does not use a math book and her notes are online. If you study the handouts and notes you will do great in this class.

I did not study for one single test and still got an A in her class. To people that algebra does not come easy to, Dr. Thom goes through things one step at a time and answers any questions. To the people that it does come easy to- an extremely easy A. Also, the first 15 minutes of class are homework review so being late (if a habit) is not problem.

A little difficult. Hard if you walk in totally blind to College Algebra. Study guides make you feel intimidated about taking the tests, but tests really aren't that bad. Take 5, drops 1. Can be confusing on the way she teaches things. She'd rather show you by using the long way instead of shortcuts, which isnt a bad thing. I got a A in the class.

Dr. Thom moves very fast you have 4 tests I currently have a 3.8GPA and I had a 47 before droping. I studied but her tests look nothing like the review and if numbers do not come natural for you then you better take this class at a tech school
