One of the worst professors I have ever had. Nothing against him personally he is a very nice man however he does nothing but read from a textbook on the over head. Gives nothing for you to write down notes and often goes off topic and taps about his personal life. You really have to teach yourself if you want to pass this class. I ended up droppin

Comment:

Definitely a likable guy, but teaching math doesn't seem to be his 'strong suit.' As others have said, he reads straight from the book. While he does use the board, more often than not he verbally explains math problems rather than writing them down on the board. In short, I taught myself through the homework projects rather than during class.

Comment:

Mr. Sumner is a nice guy however sitting in his class is pointless. He reads straight from the book and doesn't offer much explanation. I skipped every class and showed up on test days. I had to teach myself the material and passed. The book is pointless to buy, just get the homework access code. No extra credit.

Comment:

Only reads out of the book. Word for word. Much too old to be teaching, most in the class teach themselves. Quizzes are on the easier side, as well as tests. Try not to take him if you can help it, he goes the entire 2 hours reading out of the book, hands out attendance at very end of class, and no breaks. Highly recommend someone else.

Dont do it. Youre better off taking this class online. Boring/terrible teacher. I taught myself everything because i couldnt stand listening to him for over 20 minutes. Other than that hes a very sweet elderly man

Comment:

Professor Sumner was great. The material can be challenging but if you come to class you will have a solid understanding of the concepts before advancing on to your next math class. This is important! He always makes sure that students have an opportunity to ask questions before quizzes and exams, and he has a fun personality which never hurts.

By the end of class I knew more about his personal life more than I did about math. he told us we didn't need the book but the only way I passed the class was because I got the book and taught myself everything. when he did talk about math it was very boring all he did was right out the problem and complete it; no further explanation on theproblem

Prof. Sumners is, by far, one of my favorite proffesors! He is funny, which is needed when taking a subject like math. His lectures are very clear. Homework is done online, and the practice from it helps for the quizzes and tests!

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! He is a bad teacher and he doesn't care how fast he teaches and he lectures the whole time. He goes off topic and he is very confusing and he doesn't help students very well. You are on your own.

I would never take a class with him again. He is a math teacher but all he does is rapid fire numbers at you and expects you to follow. He doesn't have office hours and won't help with any problems with online resources .

Horrible teacher! Stay away from taking his class. Doesn't explain anything goes through the motions without even explaining what to do! You would be better off taking this class online because you will end up teaching yourself anyway.

Literally the worst math teacher I've ever had.. I ended up having to teach the entire course to myself. Class average was a D. He skips steps, thinks he's funny, and doesn't know the answer to any question you ask him. If you're not good at math, stay away!! Only get the book if you plan on teaching yourself... which i recommend!!

He just reads examples from the book. I don't even think he knows what he is doing. My entire class was doing awful. WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!! only good thing is he drops lowest test grade

Very nice a kind person. However, made an easy class extremely difficult. Quite possibly the worst teacher I've ever had and made it the hardest class I've ever taken. I would never recommend him to anyone. I feel bad he is such a nice person but a horrible teacher.

Such a sweet guy. He knows his math. Constantly telling kids that he is avaiable for help, reminds you to do your math lab as well. He makes the hardest subject funny with his humor. It's math, he teaches pre-req math classes, it's tough. Take his class, show up for class, and study and you will be fine.

Worst Professor ever-I don't understand anything he is saying. Half the time his back is facing us. He doesn't really teach us, if he is explaining a problem he talks to his self, and doesn't give us a clear understanding of anything. I regret taking him and will never make this mistake again. He's not a mean person, he just cant teach

I don't have enough characters to explain how much I do not like him. He doesn't help you whatsoever. On one of my hw question I got 1.73 but I got marked down because it was 1.7. ridiculous. However, attendance doesn't matter. He doesn't care about you or your grade. I haven't had another teacher to compare but I know he isn't good at all.

He's a nice guy, but his class is extremely difficult. He would do problems right out of the book and it made it difficult to learn. Many people dropped the class or just taught themselves the math.
