Comment:

Professor Williamson gave me confidence in my writing abilities. I was told by other teachers at USD that I did not write well, yet Professor Williamson loved my writing and made me feel supported, inspired, and confident again. If you put in effort, you will get a lot out of his class.

I am in his class right now and found it to be pretty boring BEFORE I actually got to know him. When I went into office hours for more clarification he showed how much he cared and he is a really cool guy. I think he liked me a lot more after I went in too, he likes to see effort put in during class

In the beginning this class seems manageable, once you get further in you realize the only way to pass is by reading the prof's mind. He is HORRIBLE at talking to students, he's drunk all the time, he's so old he can't remember what's taught us and what he hasn't. I've tried communicating with him but he is the worst at communication!! how ironic

This guy is not my fav professor at USD. He is very sarcastic, not very good at technology because he doesn't use Blackboard, and not super engaged with students. He was one of the original professors at USD since he has been here forever, so he does not care about being liked. I would not recommend since his class was not that engaging.

All over the place with his lectures, invades personal space, sort of patronizing. Dropped his class cause I couldn't stand it. Apparently some very insightful (and negative) reviews were recently removed from his page.. makes you wonder how long it'll be before this one gets taken down too. My advice: take another class or prof.

Comment:

Williamson has this hilarious, sarcastic sense of humor. Go to class or you will miss everything you need to know for papers and tests (nothing online). Lectures can be hard to follow sometimes. Follow guidelines in syllabus for papers and go to office hours if you need more help. Only three papers, including term paper and two tests. Worth taking!

Williamson is my favorite professor on campus. His lectures, while complex and theoretical, are engaging and chalked full of interesting information. His wit and humor charm the hearts of those who take his classes.

Williamson is the MAN! Had him for persuasion and prop as well as advanced public speaking. This man is by far the most knowledgable, straight forward professor I have had at USD. If you are afraid of public speaking I would stay away from his classes because he ties that into every class. Great guy, very helpful, also funny and laidback

I love Williamson! He is my favorite professor at USD! His classes are not easy, BUT he is helpful and you can definitely learn a lot from him. He is pretty funny, so you can't get bored either. I would take any of his classes.

Learned a lot in this class. Lectures can be confusing, but if you stay engaged, you'll do fine. Williamson can be intimidating at times, but if you participate in class, he really appreciates it. Go into office hours and turn in a draft of your paper to him 2 days before its due, he will give you feedback-trust me, its worth it.

Not much work. one midterm. one final. one 5 page paper. and a 10 page term paper. honest grader. the book really helps because his lectures can be hard to follow. most helpful in office hours. take advantage of the fact that he will go through your rough drafts if you do them early enough. it really helps your grade.

Good professor. Fair amount of work, one paper two exams. He is a fairly easy grader but exams are hard. You really have to study but a good grade is completely possible. I can see how some would be intimidated, but he is completely approachable.

I would look forward to going to class every week, he's SO entertaining, and extremely educated in all things Comm. He's a total ex-hippie/stoner (probably) and a strong advocate of good alcohol. He goes off on tangents a lot so in order to ace the test, take notes on the book, not only in class. He's super legit though, take his class.

Doctor larry is da bomb! The problem is that most USD undergrads aren't that smart, so, to them, he may appear intimidating. To those whose intellectual abilities are up to the task, his class will be a treat. It is obvious he loves what he does, which is the most important part of being a good prof. And, he is -- a good prof.

Williamson is a kick ass guy but a very hard teacher. Come to every class and take lots of notes! He loves when you come to office hours. I really enjoy him and would recc. him for sure but it is NOT an easy A... or B.

God, he is amazing. I wish he taught all of my comm classes, I would learn so much more & probably come to every single one of them. Intimidating but influential, really knows what he's talking about. Not sure why he is teaching and not using his talent to set up cults around the world devoted to destorying light beer, but he must have his reasons.

If I didn't need this for my major, I would drop the class. Definitely intimidating. Write down everything he says during lectures so you can pass the tests. Make sure you want to REALLY put effort into the material before you take his class. He does have an all right sense of humor. Not very reasonable/understanding. Thinks very highly of himself!
