Dr. Dice really wants you to become a better writer & each time I was revising my essays, she spent over an hour with me to give me further feedback on them and how I could improve my work. That said, I only saw my grades for my initial essay submissions, not the revisions, so I had NO IDEA what my final grade would be until I saw it on PeopleSoft.

Comment:

Dr. Dice can come off as brusque but she really cares about the topics she's teaching and appreciates when students show interest. Do the readings, participate in discussion (this is the most important thing), and be willing to think critically. If she seems argumentative, it's because she wants you to defend your opinion and argue back!

If you're looking for a professor who won't listen to you, will invalidate your opinions, and treat you like absolutely nothing! Laura Dice is the professor for you. If you're a minority don't bother taking class with her because your opinions don't matter and you're always wrong.

Dr. Dice, while being an interesting person in her own right, is not a good teacher. Her class left me wishing that I had dropped it for the whole semester. She does not value opinions that disagree with her own, and her treatment of her students leaves much to be desired. The papers are graded with seemingly arbitrary means.

Not very clear on feedback and grades harshly. She is a nice person but the class was just too much writing for a course that isn't a W. She was not kind to students who would even show up a minute late. Not showing up to the class will severely impact your grade. Books were interesting enough but lectures were boring.

Dr. Dice was very kind and always willing to talk one on one with people about their personal issues. It is a small class and it was nice getting to know new people on a personal level since all of my other classes are huge lectures. Save your money and don't get the textbook though.

Extremely close minded. Unless she really likes you from the beginning, she will never grade your essays fairly. Avoid class at all costs unless you have an EXTREME interest in the subject.

She's an alright teacher. The class is easy enough if you put effort in. However she is not the nicest person. She made me cry during my midterm conference. She is dead set in her ways and will beat you down if you don't agree with her.

Never take a FP 0003 course, no matter how much your advisor tells you how "wonderful" it is. It is a waste of time. Dr. Dice, along with every other english professor at Pitt, grades subjectively. To determine your grade, she compares your writing to everyone else's. She's nice, but such an unfair grader. AVOID PLEASE.

I loved this lady. She is so willing to help with whatever issues and questions you may have-whether it is about the class or about life. She cares about her students and puts extra effort into making class and outside of class fun! Don't be mad if she doesn't remember your name cause she doesn't remember anyone's! I highly recommend!

Papers were challenging but managable. She's a really nice lady and clarified any questions I had on assignments. Class ended up being more interesting then I expected. She seems to really appreciate taking class seriously and participation. Grading style drove me crazy, but I ended up with a good grade.

Meh, she's very set in her ways and will argue it out with you. Though she did grade fairly as I (one of her largest opponents in discussion) received an A in the course after disagreeing every week. She doesn't hand out grades until the end though so watch out. Also, she paid me back the $5 I lent her and said "hi" when I passed her last semester

The class is hard, and she expects a lot from you. However, if she knows your trying, she's very understanding. She's very helpful as well. The class is definitely a challange, but doable. I would take her again, but during the class I hated it!

She is literally the best teacher I've had at Pitt. She's incredibly nice, and understands what it's like to be a freshman. The work load is a bit tough, but not unbearable. I really enjoyed her class.
