Comment:
Took her classes in 2001-2003 and she was one of my favourite profs, maybe because I got A's from her. Her classes are in the British style where the students aren't spoon-fed the info and are expected to do a significant amount of reading outside of class. If you can handle that, she's brilliant. If you can't, find an easier class.

I took her for Magi,Sci,Rel. Oddly I can emphasize with student's disapproval of her, and yet I still have to say this is one of the best classes I took and oddly I quite enjoyed her. Im a pretty poor student with a 2.7 GPA but this class I got an A, my only A. Perhaps it was just b/c i was so interested in the topic.

Comment:
Professor Osler's knowledge of her subject matter are impressive, but undermined by her condescending manner/demeaning attitude toward questions. She's obviously bright, but lacks empathy and the genuine desire to help students. Her feedback is woefully unhelpful and her dogmatic refusal to give A+'s speaks to her closed-minded style of teaching.

Comment:
Dr. Osler is an awful professor. She is completely vague, and her teaching style hasn't been used for centuries. She refuses to use a microphone in an huge room, and when asked if the exam questions are specific to a certain topic or if they are general she stated "they could be specific, but general in nature". The absolute worst prof.

History of Witchcraft sounds interesting enough.. until its taught by Dr. Osler. She is a very confusing prof, goes off topic, and you will most likely drop anyone of her classes. Not recommended for first years.

If you require a lot of direction from a prof, don't take a class with her. She refuses to discuss exams beforehand and made us write 3 essays in two hours for the final. That being said, the class wasn't a total waste of time. She's kind of entertaining and genuinely enjoys teaching the topic. Not recommended for first year students.

Seems to know her stuff, but is completely unreasonable in her expectations of students. Like previous comments, she refuses to answer questions, and demands that you write a HISTORY PAPER without any secondary sources! AVOID AVOID AVOID! I even read the previous reviews, and was dumb enough to gamble on this class. Tanked my GPA

Very very unorganized lectures. Course material structure is very poor. She is obviously very smart, but her communication is sporadic and hard to follow. Easily distracted and looses focus quickly. Term paper was unreasonable to write and tests are difficult. Lots and lots of readings assigned. Overall, would not recommend.

One of the worst professors ever. Refuses to help in any way. Gives zero direction for exams or papers. Gets mean in class if asked a question she does not like. Uses no outline for lectures, they are just incoherent ramblings. Should have been a great class with intresting material. She should not be teaching anyone! Avoid, avoid, avoid!

She is very fun actually, she talks of interesting topics and cracks sarcastic jokes. She marks fair as well and does not expect students to remember every single detail.

I actually thought that she was a very good prof. Didn't use powerpoints, just lectured from her notes & off the top of her head - it seemed a lot more interesting to attend a lecture where somebody actually SPEAKS, rather than rattling off powerpoint slides in monotone. Very interesting material, I learned a lot in this course and had fun!

Refuses to even try to answer questions, all over the place in lectures. Seems to have lost touch with undergrads, expects way too much on the term paper. Ruined what should have been an awesome course with interesting content. She's a complete waste of time, too bad she's the only one who teaches the class.

A nice enough person, until you ask a question that she thinks is stupid - she won't try to hide the fact that she thinks it. Disorganized lectures, not helpful, and the term paper was virtually impossible to write. Interesting info, but could have been better with a different person teaching it.

Could not be a worse professor. She cannot speak, cannot lecture, cannot keep focus. Her term paper is literally impossible. Rolls her eyes if you ask for help. Straight out told me she "doesn't help students". Complete waste of an interesting topic. Avoid avoid avoid. On of the sorst professors on campus, by far.

She seems nice enough and had her occassional good moments, and usually picks good quotes, but her lectures are terrible. Doesn't have any structure to her speaking, and jumps around. Rereading your notes is near impossible. I'd probably reccomend avoiding her unless you need a nap period or can follow bad lectures.

Comment:
Dr. Osler is obviously very bright, and knows a lot about what she's teaching. Her lectures are a little hard to follow, however, and her tests seldom correspond to lecture/textbook material. History students should know that her approach to testing is completely unlike the rest of the Department.
