Comment:

Hands down my favorite professor. He doesn't "teach" but instead does a million examples until its second nature. Expectations from day one are very clear and consistent. Preps you well for the specific final given. Doesn't have time to hold hands but is VERY fair and VERY nice - especially to students who try. And he has a sense of humor!

Near is a great professor. He is definitely a stingy grader on quizzes and tests. He is super clear and helpful though. Very good math professor and I would definitely recommend him! Class is quizzes and tests only, but his super dry, sarcastic sense of humor will keep you motivated. Good TEACHER.

Comment:

Prof Near is honestly the best Math teacher i have had my entire school career. I took MTH 121 with him and i hadnt had a math class for 5 years prior, but he is an exceptional teacher that is very clear with his teaching stlye. GO TO Class and take notes. Exams are what he teaches in class. Would recommend to everyone needing a math class.

This professor was helpful only if you were able to get on his good side. Extremely rude. My exam was graded incorrectly, and I asked him about it. He swore at me under his breath, and did nothing about it. Very rude person.

He was my workshop instructor for MTH 141. He answers any questions you have and makes examples clear. Make sure to show all work and fully simplify on the weekly quizzes, which are only worth 25 points (with around 8-10 questions).

Professor Near is fantastic! I took his MTH122 class in the 2012, but after all that time has passed I must show some love! He's organized, and his lectures are easy to understand. Most of all, if you bombard him with questions, he is more than willing to answer.

This professor is horrible. His grading is very confusing to figure out. His exams are okay but you never have enough time to finish. Reviews don't help much either. His final exam is the worst. I did fairly well on all quizzes and exams, studied for the final as well but apparently did bad. Final dropped my grade one full letter. Horrible.

Professor Near is the definition of a great mathematician and teacher! He is the perfect guy to teach calculus and does it very well. He is clear, concise, and to the point. Always on time, on topic, and reliable. He does not require attendance or homework and treats you like a college adult, not a hs kid. Gives great notes, quizzes, and tests.

Prof. Near is extremely good at his job. The material is difficult but the way he teaches it is extremely helpful. He answers any questions that anyone might have and always tries to help his students out. He is very fair with his grading. Out of 10 quizzes only the top 8 are counted. He also checks his email regularly to answer any questions!

Whatever you hear about OU math isn't that bad if you have this professor. His lectures are clear, he knows what he's talking about, he's extremely helpful if you have a question, and he has pre-made notes for each lecture. Take this professor if you can, grade is based on only quizzes and tests, but they're easy if you attend the lectures.

Best math teacher at OU. He explains everything very clearly. There is no homework but there are weekly quizzes. If you do the practice problems, the quizzes will be a breeze. I definitely recommend him, i wish he taught more classes at OU.

Near is the best math teacher i have ever had, if i would say there was a downside to his teaching style it is that he doesnt make the class practice the math. so there was no homework in this class, it was optional. but seriously if you want to pass the class do the homework

Professor Near is the man! He is such a great professor. You will love him. He makes everything so easy to understand yet you know that it's hard but he still makes it easy. He is always prepared and gives the best reviews. I loved a math a little bit but after taking his class, I love it a lot.

This guy is one of the better Math Teachers at Oakland University. Being a Math class it does require lots of outside problems to be able to fully understand the material (and do well on the tests), but he is very clear and helpful. I expected a 2.5 from this class because I'm awful at math but got a 3.5
