Filas is tough, but a great Professor. Reading and participating in class convos are the two most important things to keep up with in class. No tests or quizzes. Hes funny and respectful and makes class enjoyable. Clear grading criteria and grades assignments quickly. Overall a great guy and if youre willing to put in the work its an easy A

Daily participation is required to pass. Makes you read An American Dream by Mailer so be prepared for that mess. Two papers, one presentation. If you don't like American lit and tell him that? Get ready for him to call you out during discussion. If you're taking this for core credit only, don't bother, just drop down to the core class not worth it

He was such a force. had papers everyday. would give you a grade on a paper then when you passed it in to workshop it you would get a lower grade on the paper, even though its the SAME paper! if you come in late even by one second you are marked absent, and he only gives you three absences. he is also really annoying, overall hated the class.

He's one of the best professors I've had. Really engaging in class and gives good feedback on papers. The best thing about taking this class, in my opinion, was that he tells you the exact criteria that he will be using to grade your projects and exams. His class moves fairly quickly but it's interesting material so it's totally worth it.

He is certainly a very intelligent man, and he is certainly aware of his intelligence. If you do the work and follow the directions you will get a lot out of his class, but he can be abrupt and condescending at times. He will give you help if you ask, but will encourage you to utilize other students before coming to him. *Non-English majors beware.

Filas is an incredibly good looking man and a good professor. He would most likely be hard for a non English major because of the amount of reading he gives. He is very clear with his assignments. I plan on taking him again in the future.

Absolutely wonderful professor who is clear on assignments, makes class engaging and interesting, and inspires students to be above average (I truly cared about getting an A as opposed to a B on assignments). He is also attractive physically which certainly informed my decision to take him as a professor again.

By far my favorite class that I have taken. He is a great professor, both in explaining subject matter and truly helping you out. He cracks jokes a lot which helps keep the class interesting. Be prepared to write a lot, but it's totally worth it! I highly recommend him!!

Absolutely awesome professor--he is not particularly easy as he has specific ways of doing things and expects a lot. He doesnt have a textbook typically just novels. HOWEVER one of the few classes where i actually LEARN...also he's a wonderful mentor.

I have him for cultural studies & he is amazing! our first text was Kurt Cobain's journals! how more interesting can a class get? You have to do a powerpoint near the end of the semester but it's fairly easy. Participation is a must to keep the class fun & exciting. I defintely recommend it & I'm planning on taking another class with him!!
