This was a very small class and it was entirely driven by assigned reading. The reading was boring and hard to get through. Also if one person had not read the entire class was a loss. I found I had to ask alot of BS questions to keep the class moving. Otherwise I would have fallen asleep. Also the professor habitually arrived late for class.

this class is so boring id rather be listening to nails scratching on the board than him. if you go to class and do his chapter summaries you'll pass other than that borrring! don't have him as a teacher if you hate listening to a professor go on and on and on about a topic and he goes until the last minute of class!!!! grab a pillow and get comfy

Attendance and class participation are a must. He makes you sign in when you get to class so he can keep track of your attendance. For this class he gave a 6 page midterm and a 12-15 page final paper. A 1 page response is required after each weeks reading. He's a good history professor, a little boring though.

Prof. Mbodj is very easy going when it comes into work, and sure he does do his little rants, but they're funny. Class participation can count a lot too, so just do the reading, talk in class, and it's really interesting. This class made me want to be an African studies minor.. there is so much you can learn in this class, a whole new perspective.

Mbodj is a really cool guy. He is an average professor if you take everything he says for face value. I am an African Studies minor and LOVE learning about Africa so his little rants dont bother me at all. He is rather easy and kind of long winded but I learned more about Africa from his classes than anyone else before. He is brilliant though

He is a bit boring. I recommend taking his summer class: not a lot of reading, one midterm and a 10 page paper. Although we have a few discussions, he tends to talk too much and not give us enough time for a break. But if you have to take a calss this summer take this one.

Painfull, just absolutley painful. It has nothing to do with his accent, he just doesnt have that one thing that any good professor needs, the abbility to captivate...Dont take his class, take it from someone who stuck it out and got an A.
