Great teacher. Really cares about teaching the material more than making life hard for the students. If you try to learn, you will do great.

Dr. Vanfleet was a great guy and was very helpful but I think physics is a difficult class to teach in general. Every problem is a different type of story problem so you may understand the concept but have a hard time applying it to different situations. Overall the class wasn't nearly as time consuming as they claim. 4-5 hrs a week max, not 20.

You're going to get a TA for this class. You'll never even see Dr. V once. So it's up to the TA on how well the class goes. It's a hard class no matter who you have as a TA though. Concepts and equations are difficult. They often expect alot from students in the given time frame. Fun, but I dreaded it every single week. 12 labs, 2 papers, 0 tests!

Engaging lecturer. PS100 is a standardized course so the teacher you have doesn't matter all that much but I'm glad I had him because class was always interesting. He's a good teacher and did remarkably well considering it was his first time teaching the course - he has a very good general science knowledge. Recommended.

This was a really fun class for me and it was the first physics class that I had at BYU where I learned something new from high school. Dr. Vanfleet was a very good teacher and having the homework due only once a week really helped me want to do it, compared to other physics classes.

Comment:
Electromagnetism is probably the most difficult subject to teach, so I don't think the difficulty of the class is a reflection of Vanfleet's teaching skills. You just have to actually take the pre-class reading assignments seriously, because he can't possibly go over everything in class. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to this class!

The concepts and math of this class are very difficult, as far as physics teachers go though, he is the best I have had.

Very time consuming class, but not as difficult as people say it is. Don't get behind or you'll get trashed. Dr. Vanfleet does a good job teaching a difficult subject, but the class progresses too quickly.

Dr. Vanfleet was a great teacher. He explained the material well and answered questions. The class is essentially a review of basic physics, so if you're like me and want to review basic math & calculus, it's not going to be a great help. However it does get you thinking and brings back a lot of stuff you learned before. Not a lot of work.

I would say that Dr. Vanfleet honestly does try to do a very good job. Unfortunately, electromagnetism is a difficult subject to teach. I don't think that this class would be easy with any teacher... but I do think that Dr. Vanfleet will help you with anything you need. Lectures are pretty worthless though.

The amount of work required for this class exceeds the reasonable amount for 3 credits. Dr. Vanfleet's lectures are of very little help. I got an extremely good grade, but with absolutely no help from Dr. Vanfleet. 6 tests, 3 homeworks/week, 10+ quizzes, 3 reading quizzes/week. Dr. Vanfleet doesn't care that you have other classes.

Dr. Vanfleet isn't a bad teacher at all. But the Physics department really needs to drop its ego and make this class more doable. I only got a decent grade because Dr. Vanfleet has a generous curve.

Dr. Vanfleet is an exceptional teacher. He is very friendly, and teaches physics very well. I like the way his homework, tests, and quizzes are organized. I've been here for three semesters, and he's the best teacher I've had.

Dr. Vanfleet spends a lot of time answering student's questions in class, which results in a somewhat scrambled lecture style, but he is on the ball and fair. You can tell he is concerned about being a good teacher. Tests are mostly multiple-choice, meaning no partial credit. The overall grading curve is generous (90% A, 85%A-).

Really expects you to already know the stuff. Rough going for those who don't already know lots about electronics and magnetism. Lectures are worthless but you need the points for in-class quizzes and the clicker quizzes.

I found this class quite a bit harder than 121 or 123. There is a lot to do, but that's nothing new in physics classes. The tests are mostly multiple-choice and particularly difficult. He has test reviews and post-test summaries. I'd recommend him over anyone else who teaches 220.

I've had better classes. Tons of work is expected and lectures arent terrific at clearing up confusion. He doesnt really clear things up, but rather speaks the exact same language as the book.
