Comment:
I took Dr. Metcalf for a little bit in his Matrices class. He's such a SUPER nice and super helpful guy outside of class, however in class, he tends to ramble on his mathematical tangents that nobody seems to understand. It takes an unlimited amount of patience to actually sit and listen to his lectures. Nice guy, but cannot relay his material

Dr Metcalf was always available to help if you are struggling with the material. I think so many struggled probably because they didn't do the homework-Homework was not mandatory, but I would reccomend doing it anyway to learn the information. The only grades were the tests, but if you've done the homework then you should know all the test info.

Dr. Metcalf is a hard professor. But let me explain why I love Dr. Metcalf. He is always available for help and really cares about the students. He shows you the material and if you need additional help, he is there. The textbook goes right along with what he is teaching. Take him if you want to remember a professor for the rest of your life.

Dr. Metcalf is a VERY smart person, but does not have the ability to replay information in a clear way. His ramblings in class do not help understand the material. Dr. Metcalf should not work as a teacher.

DO NOT TAKE HIM!! I am normally really good in Math and got an A in Calculus in High School and tutored students in math but I had to withdraw from this class in order to prevent myself from failing.

This guy is INSANELY SMART, but I think that's his problem. He doesn't explain things on a level everyone can easily understand. He's a good guy and tries to be helpful, but it's all for naught. I'm not sure if he still teaches, but if he does DON'T take him. A nice enough guy, but a poor teacher that's impossible to understand.

Let me begin by saying high school ruined math for me. I was still good at it, I just hated it because of how I was taught it. Dr. Metcalf changed that for me. He is an amazing mathematician and one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. If you have to have a math class and he is teaching it I recommend taking him.

Dr. Metcalf is a very smart man, but he cannot teach! If you listen to him in class, it will not make any sense. If you have to take him just read the book and do the homework and practice tests.

He is not a good teacher at all! He is a nice person but he can't teach. He assigns homework that is nearly impossible because he doesn't teach the content and you can't even teach yourself because the book is also hard to understand. He is very willing to try and help during office hours but sometimes that doesn't help much either. Exams are hard!

He can not teach worth a damn. I went to 2 classes and then switched sections. I need MAT 261 for my major so I got the hell out of there. Take it with Kirk Jones. Metcalf needs to work at NASA or something like that.

He is a horrible teacher!!!!! Very hard to understand and messes up a lot. May know the information but he CAN NOOOOTTTT TEACH IT!! When grading his tests, if you get one number wrong, he counts the whole problem wrong wether you did the rest of the problem correct or not. AWFUL AND NEEDS TO FIND ANOTHER PROFESSION, teaching is def not it.

TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!! I love math! love it! He has made me wish I was a history major. Everything that he goes over in lecture has nothing AT ALL to do with his tests. He is IMPOSSIBLE to get information out of concerning your grade. He is entirely too smart for his own good. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!

Terrible Teacher. Doesn't explain anything and does most of the math in his head. Doesn't explain anything. If you ask a question, at the end of his answer you forget what the question even was. If you can, take another teacher. After a while I would go to class and just teach myself instead of listening to him and I did 10 times better on tests!

Terrible. He rambles on and on so you forget what the topic was to begin with. He just confuses you more after talking and trying to explain more. I stop going to class, except on test days, taught myself out of the book and got an A in the class and got better grades on the 4 tests I took taught by myself than the one I took with his instruction.

DO NOT TAKE METCALF. He is too smart to teach math to college students and most of the time he explains stuff you either don't need or can't use on the test. Also his grading is inconsistent; if you get the right answer but get to it a different way then he wants he WILL count it wrong. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANY MATH!

He is undoubtedly the worst professor I have ever had. He is very smart, and he knows it. He makes everyone in the class feel like an idiot. He goes into way too much detail on things that don't matter, and doesn't spend enough time on the material he tests you on. Avoid at all costs.

Dr. Metcalf is for the student who wants to learn math. He challenges the students who want to be there, and those students appreciate him for it. He's extremely intellegent and can bring it down to everyone in the class. He's more than helpful, as well. Take him if you want to learn.
