Dr. Thornton is awesome. Her lectures are always super interesting and she includes other media so she is not spending time reading us a PowerPoint. Take this class if you have any interest in law as it is a good base for criminal justice. Take this class if you are considering studying history. Take this class!! 5 Quizzes 3 Tests 1 optional paper

Professor Thornton is amazing. She makes expectations clear and has really interesting lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but she requires 5 books for the class and there are 5 question reading quizzes but she tells you when they are. 3 tests all with 10 multiple choice and an essay and really weren't hard. Shes super caring and inspirational!

Professor Thornton is a wonderful professor. I honestly enjoyed my time in her class. She tells stories and makes every topic as interesting as possible. However, she definitely wants you to know what you're talking about in test essays, and this class is not an easy A. If you're looking to actually learn something though, she'll be your favorite!

Prof Thornton is absolutely amazing, one of few professors I think are necessary to have before leaving UB. Highly intelligent, very clear and entertaining lectures. Go to class and do the readings, you will get a really good grade.

Class consists of weekly responses in recitation, 3 papers, a midterm, and a final. Different then your high school American history, it's more like society and people throughout American history. Her lectures are very clear and organized, but recitation is annoying sometimes (held by TA's). Not exactly an easy A, but very much possible!

Extremely into what she is teaching. She is an engaging and great lecturer who understands that history is not everyone's major or minor. You will have to write 3 three page papers and 6/10 half page responses on weekly assigned podcasts. There is 1 exam and a final. Recitations are mandatory on a weekly basis.

Extremely helpful. Will have to write 3 book reports and 3 half page papers. But was very interesting. If you go to her office hours she will definitely help. Lectures are very interesting and helpful. Relates the information to the students.

She teaches with great enthusiasm. She lectures for the whole 50 minutes, however, if you pay attention and take good notes, you will do great in the exams. Gives enough time to write the papers (Three two page papers). Outline your essays for the exams, you'll do great. Not an easy A, but it's not impossible if you work for it.

Thornton is definitely into what she's teaching. Lectures can be very dry but it's US history so it's expected. Grade consists of 3 tests, 3 half pg responses, 3 long papers, and participation in recitation. I was averaging B's on my papers and worse on my exams (minus the final), but still managed to pull out an A. Just participate and study hard!

Dr. Thornton was one of my best professor's I've ever had. She inspired me to go on with my studies in History. She is smart and knows her facts very well. There is a lot of note taking, almost exhausting. But it's worth it.Love her lectures. Simply she is one of the best professors at UB.

Super smart and somewhat easy class, but sort of a tough grader. She rips apart essays then gives you a good grade anyways. Kind of difficult to tell if shes trying to be helpful or is just really picky. Her personality is similar. She comes off as condescending at times, not sure if she is just reserved. Also pretty vocal extreme liberal.

She is an excellent professor who really knows what she is talking about and she enjoys what she does, which makes for a great learning environment and motivates to do well. Her quizzes are easy if you read the book because they take general ideas from the book. She is a hard grader but you get used to it and it makes you a better writer.

Awesome teacher. Gets excited during her lectures and has a genuine enthusiasm for what what she does, I have taken 2 classes with Thornton and would definitely take more. Classes are interesting. If you go to class it's an easy A, I only did about half the readings and still did well

She is the best professor I have had at UB. She is very informative and is very knowledgable about what she is teaching. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gets all her test questions from her notes, not from the textbook...so it would be stupid not to go to the classes..we are all college students..how hard is it, really, to go to the classes?!

thornton is a very traditional teacher. lectures are interesting to go to and she's well prepared. go to lectures its so much easier to study because she gives outlines of her lectures online and then kind of fills in the gaps during lecture. tests are mostly essay form which makes it easier to get partial credit. ta's are not very helpful though.

Great Professor, teaches with enthusiasm. Attendance not mandatory in lectures, but if you dont go, it makes studying for tests harder. Easy stuff that was taught generally in high school, the tests are a little hard, but I also didn't attend class too often. One essay, 4 short answer, and 8 multiple choice.

She is an excellent professor, except for one large complaint I have. She is a CRUEL grader. Everything is fine until a test comes. That is when I hate her because she will just take many points away for missing even the smallest details. Take her if you want, but don't expect an A.
