This class is very challenging homework's every week, lab is 3-4 hours long once a week, online quizzes every Sunday due before midnight, definitely have to study for the exams and make sure your are good with all material. 2 mineral exams total of 5 exams, a mineral project, field trips for extra credit, class not mandatory but necessary. Though!!

Dr. Sharp's lectures are dynamic and packed with a lot of info. Show up to class alert, read the book prior to lecture and ask questions. He is very good at explaining difficult concepts. Great professor.

Pretty easy class if you like math, physics, or chemistry. For other students it can be pretty challenging. Tests are hard so make sure you study every detail. Homework and labs aren't bad. Project is really easy just put time into the class.

Very difficult class. This class easily required 80% of my study-time all semester. I got a little irritated with mid-terms and the final because rather that a test of material comprehension, it was more of a memorization exam that tested strange details. I felt the final exam was mostly trick questions. Very slow to post grades on BB.

Tom Sharp is an expert in anything you want to know about mineralogy. He makes sure to provide you with the tools to learn and succeed in his class, its up to you to use them. Labs are really fun, you get to make real diamonds in the lab... no joke. If you plan to know what youre talking about in your career and get ahead this class is a must take.

Field II is fun but can be frustrating. There is very little instruction. You may find the expectations of the different profs grading your reports wildly inconsistent. The school's limited budget also puts a damper on things. You might consider a summer field school somewhere else.

Worst professor ever! Do not take if not geology major! Just trys to trick you the whole time. He held two reviews for the final and both had been a waist of time because he purposly made the final extremely hard. Now my grade is posted and I still do not know what my grade is for that test or paper or presentation. Worthless teacher! AVOID!!!!!!!!

Sharp is a very good lecturer and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. There is a heavy workload that goes with it, which is sometimes a problem because it can be difficult to track him down outside of class. If you do, he explains things well. The final was absolutely brutal but he graded fairly.

Prof. Sharp is a true mountain of a man. When he enters the wild regions of Payson to instruct Field Geology II, the birds stop singing and the insects stop buzzing so that they may also intently listen to his Moses-like instruction. This year, I saw a hungry black bear approach him for advice on the best feeding grounds in the area.

He deeply knows what he's talking about, from plain minerals to optics and TEM. He's also very understanding & merciful. Some of his TAs are a pain, but if you get him outside class, he can clarify anything. Much of the class is boring and hard. Reading everyday is a key factor, otherwise you start staying behind. Labs are a piece of cake.
