She is nice and awesome, always ready to help and share more opportunities with students. I developed more presentation and writing skills this quarter as well as how to become a Wikipedia editor. Theses are valuable skills I learned in her class.

Dr. Briscoe is an extremely passionate instructor. She had a very organized class structure, and I really enjoyed her class. The class had no exams or quizzes, and was solely based on group presentations (2-3 students per group). This was a doable class, but you really need to stay on top of your work if you want to succeed.

Dr. Briscoe is by far one of the best professors I have taken at UCI. The class is quite interesting learning about insect physiology, and the professor keeps it engaging by relating it to her own research. The structure of the class is quite simple and fun - you get to work on your presenting skills and there is not too much work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

There are no exams for this course, instead you're graded on some homework items and 4 presentations done in groups of 2 or 3. She's not a particularly great lecturer, but you're not tested on her lecture material. The textbook is available online. Overall, the class was pretty chill.

This course is different from other biology courses - instead of lectures and exams, there are group presentations and summaries. This class helps anyone who's in or is interested in research. Dr. Briscoe provides valuable feedback that helps improve your public speaking and writing skills. Definitely recommend taking this course if you can!

I took this course Winter 2018 and it turned out to be one of my favorite courses here at UCI, I highly recommend it to anyone. The grade for this class is based off presentations that require you to read primary literature. If you show that you did the reading in your presentation then you'll do well.

I really liked this course because most of it is based on presentations! I'm not a very confident speaker myself , but Dr. Briscoe gave very valuable feedback on my presentations and papers and it definitely helped me learn to read research articles better. Would definitely recommend this course; if you put in the effort, then you will do well.

Presentations are graded fairly and she gives helpful feedback individually. As long as you do your research and work with your group, you'll get the grade you want. Dr. Briscoe is a passionate professor and she'll help you on how to read research articles better. Very helpful. Highly recommend this class! This was my favorite bio class.

Dr. Briscoe was amazing in giving us advice on how to improve our public speaking skills. She gave good tips in how to present in research, super helpful if you're doing Excellence in Research or UROP. The presentations were all in teams and you may or may not be in the same team each time. I would definitely take her again!

Initially, I was nervous that there were 5 presentations (I have a fear of public speaking!)! However, I am so glad I took the class with Dr. Briscoe. Each presentation gave me the opportunity to practice reading scientific papers, overcome my fear, and improve with Dr. Briscoe's helpful tips/feedback! Her lectures were also super interesting!

I was expecting a very overwhelming course as it was on a topic that I was not very interested in and it was my first honors course (I almost took it Pass/No Pass). However, Dr. Briscoe was very accessible and fair in grading. The class was 5 presentations on papers of your choice-no midterm, no final or any tests. Would definitely take again!!

Great class to take Junior year if eligible! Probably the best practice and feedback on public speaking/scientific presentations. If you ever plan on presenting, this class is a must!! Dr. Briscoe does a good job of tailoring your presentations and teaching new and complex scientific discoveries (and how they affect us!!). Great class and professor

Dr. Briscoe is a wonderful professor with an effective way of teaching. Her class offers wonderful one-on-one interactions between the student and professor. The student group presentations allow students to grow as a scientist and become prepared for graduate/professional school. She is also very patient and approachable. I was excited for class.

I have always dreaded speaking in front of my peers, and when I found out that this class was going to consist of 5 oral presentations, I was less than excited. Now that I finished the course, I am really glad I took this class. Professor Briscoe is awesome, and very knowledgeable about vision. I would totally recommend this class.

Professor Briscoe is absolutely wonderful! You can tell she is really passionate about this class and about her students. The class is based off of presentations but she makes the class so fun that everyone really liked that. It's a really unique upper division bio course and more people should take it. Work hard and you can definitely get an A.

If you are thinking about taking this class, TAKE IT! She really made the class fun and interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed coming to class! She is super passionate about this subject and lets you present topics you're interested in. The class had a great environment and everyone else had a great time too! The best part is: no tests!

I managed to get away with an A, but I could just have easily gotten a C...I was lucky in guessing on her final. Her test wasn?t hard?it was that it asked questions about incredibly unimportant stuff and nothing about pathways, mechanisms, or overall concepts. I'm sure the whole class freaked out when we saw the test. She also cannot teach.

I have to agree she was awful. She only outlines the material without explaining it at all. Test are also written very badly. Even if you studied and knew the stuff, you could get really confused by her wording. Read the book and try your best, but she won't teach you anything.
