She is very understanding with her students, and is always there for people to reach out to. I would take her class again in a heartbeat. She is a semi-hard grader, but if you put in the work you will get the reward.

She is always so upbeat and always tries her hardest to help her students out when they're confused. She does give lots of readings but they're not bad and the quizzes aren't hard if you pay attention to her lectures.

I loved this class with April! Her lectures were great and you can tell she is passionate about history and that makes it even better! Her quizzes were not hard if you did the reading and paid attention in class. She is always open to questions and is totally able to answer them!

Enthusiastic about the subject, very knowledgeable. Took her two semesters in a row, specifically signing up for her class the second time. There is a lot of reading. This isn't a course most students will be able to cruise to an A in.

Comment:

Ms. Birchfield filled in for our regular instructor to cover pre World War 2, and later the entire timeline of the war in European and Asian theaters. Very memorable lectures. She starts light, and moves easily into heavy territory, never glossing over the mistakes and folly of mankind. Just a handful of her lectures left a deep impression upon me.

Be ready to write an essay almost every week. Also you will be given a pretty difficult quiz and many many hours of reading to do every week. If you absolutely love history this class may be for you, any less interest and this class will be agonizing. The instructor does seem to care but has a tough way of showing it with all the work she gives.

I highly recommend April for history!! She is engaging, fun, and makes history interesting. Her expectations are clear, and she is very reasonable when it comes to homework and other assignments. I will be taking her classes again in the future.

This is the second class that I have taken with Ms. Birchfield. It's very simple. Read the book. Do the homework. If you are lazy, you won't pass. I have learned so much from her, and truly enjoyed the class even in an online format. This is not an easy A. This is a class to take if you actually want to learn.

She doesn't side with one side of political history over another. She is a feminist and I like this about her. She is fast and very smart. She's kind of tough but worth it. I think her politics might be a bit conservative but she does a good job.

I took His 131 online. The workload was intense and the quizzes each week were long. You have to make time for this class to pass. She is friendly and replies to you if you need help. She does take a long time to grade things, so that makes it hard to know how you are doing in the class. I wish you luck!

I've never had a teacher as bad as this one. EVER! She was useless and always right (in her mind). Her online class is the pits and I would advise you to run for the hills! Her tests are unreasonably timed and the study guide doesn't match the tests. I actually did better using the internet verses the guide. I'm telling you, take it somewhere else!

Considering this NC history class was an online 5 week summer minimester course, the leg work was intense. April made herself very available to answer questions and she provided a study guide before each exam. The exams were timed (given 1hr 20 mins) and they were SO HARD so I could barely finish themn in time. Its a good thing I'm a fast typer.

She is a great teacher! Great discussions and she did a great job at getting everyone involved. She allows you to use a cheat sheet on the test. Only negative is you do have a ten page paper to do. My interest in history is average at best but I really enjoyed the class.
