She is an amazing teacher, she is super passionate about the subject and this is the one class at lane where I actually learned a lot. It is easy to pass as long is you attend and pay attention she has chances for extra credit. No that the textbook you pay for you won't get money back cause you fill it out for the class its one she made.

Carrie is amazing at what she does, but class was jumbled and homework assignments contained a heavy workload and were given out the day before due. She will help you pass, but tests are large and heavy in information. Skims over things.

I love how she would be really down to earth and would be compasionate with her students and is passionate about her job. She is inspiring to me about her dedication to teach and educate students, education the public and run museum and would do whale watching tours with the public. I would love to take another class with her again.

The thing is, Carrie is incredibly sweet and cares about the success of the student. I think the fact that she is willing to put so much time into any individuals success says a lot about her as a teacher. Having said that, her tests require lots of binge information and she can be a bit on the scattered side. It was overall a great class however!

great teacher! knows her stuff. But be aware this class cost you and gas. many field trips that you use your own gas and miles. she gives good hints and reminders on test. but if you dont know it you are screwed. big test points. expensive books. but she is a good teacher.

Carrie Newell is simply some of the best that biology teachers have to offer. She is perpetual inspiration and teaches with methods you will not forget. Plus, she owns a whale watching company in Depot Bay that entitles you to half price whale watching for life. (JUST YOU NOT YOUR FRIENDS!) :)She has contributed priceless research on Gray Whales!!

Carrie is an amazing teacher and friend. I had her for BI 102C & 103D in 2015-2016, and it's because of her I've decided to major in marine biology. She's inspirational, has fantastic stories, gives amazing lectures, nearly always has extra credit on tests, and I wish I had more opportunities to learn from her. Take her classes if at all possible!

Carrie is wonderful! It's great that she offers an alternative approach to biology by not teaching evolution like all the other teachers. While her tests are a little intense, they are easily managed if you study the textbook well. She gives a lot of extra credit on the exams, so getting a good score is very reasonable. Excellent teacher!

While I enjoyed her as a teacher and she knew a lot about marine life, she told our class that evolution is a myth. Yes, a biologist who denies evolution. That floored me. But if you don't care about that, her class is fun, just make sure to study for the tests! They are really long!

Carrie is passionate about what she is teaching and that resonates through the class. I will never be able to go to the beach again with out thinking of her. I walk along the beach and know the organisms that I am looking at - name, how they breed, their uniqueness, respiratory and digestive systems. How long they live and why they are important!

Carrie is a very nice person, but her teaching style is very scattered and confusing. The syllabus is useless, field trips are mandatory even if they are far away and often little notice is given before a field trip. The tests are poorly planned out. She is enthusiatic about what she teaches, but does not do well teaching it.

Carrie is a wonderful teacher. She doesn't teach or test in "traditional" styles, which can clash with some students. Overall, she is very fair & gives opportunities to succeed to everyone. I've never had so much success in a science course. It's because of Carrie that I've decided to study Marine Biology. I would HIGHLY recommend her as a teacher.

Lots of memorization and very scattered. I don't feel that she uses her time very well. You have to grade your own test which is lame. I won't take her classes again.

Obscene amounts of binge memorization for tests. She has a stunning bias against evolution and biological/historical consensuses. She's a nice person, but frequently treats scientific myths with credibility (dinosaurs living with man, even) and has formed her class entirely around binge memorization. I would not take her course again.

I love Carrie. She is an amazing teacher, loves what she does and will go above and beyond to help you get a good grade in her class. Lot's of extra credit opportunities as well. Her tests do require studying but if you put in the work, there is no reason not to get an A in her class.

I've had Carrie for two terms now & am registered for my third. Her tests are a bit hard because they cover SO much material & are "physical" tests meaning the organisms are available to look at, touch, smell, etc. She is willing to help you though & very passionate. She created her book so you will use EVERY page. Very informative and interesting!
