Take him! Some of the blackboards are hard but when you're in his class, you learn a lot. Curved the quiz and the final is take home. He's one of the funniest professors I've ever had. A good guy and knows what he's talking about.

Really knows his stuff. He is a better than fair grader. He uses books that you should read, but you can pass without it. Does a group project and a lot of essays. Best anthropology teacher. Take him if you can!

Good class to take if you need a distribution credit or if you're really interested in archeology. There's no tests and I didn't have to use the books until I wrote my final paper. Some of his assignments are a little vague, but just talk with him and he'll help you out.

matthews is a pretty good professor. he knows what hes talking about and he gets good discussions going.he threw markers, swore, fell over, and even ripped his pants--right across the back. hes on the easier side of grading too. just keep in mind the word "concept"

Matthews is easily my favorite teacher at Hofstra. He is really excited about archaeology and wants his students to show interest in it. He keeps you compelled by throwing chalk/markers and using teaching props like water bottles. He grades appropriately and is super understanding and approachable. Def take his classes!

Comment:
Matthews is original and innovative. He explores a more theoretical side of his field. He does extraneous things like throwing water bottles or pens at the wall and you have deep discussions on 'concepts' almost every class. He's an excellent teacher, though. He's also a fair grader.

He is very nice and funny, although as the semester progresses his class starts getting a little monotome and boring because it is the same subject over and over again. But! it's not that bad, he is a great guy. And if you need help he will help you. The class demanded a lot of work, and sure extra credit helped, but homework is usually interesting

Every person in my class hated it and never went. He doesnt take late assignments. We learn pointless things. All he does it talk and goes over pointless notes you d

Awesome teacher. Most teachers I've had here at Hofstra have been pretty dull. But he keeps the class moving (like throwing a water bottle up and down to show the class that gravity is a THEORY). Take his class ... really makes you think. Best professor I've had here so far.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Some tests are take home and some aren't. he makes you memorize 80 terms for the first test and then asks you to write essays. I wanted to learn about Native Americans but hated this class. If you fail a test, cry to him, he'll give you extra credit

DO NOT take this class unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to learn about native americans. Very boring & he expects too much from you. This was the HARDEST class I have ever taken. But if you fail a test, he is helpful (if you are willing to do work.)

Even though he looks like a GIANT 10 year old boy he is still an aswome teacher. I came into the class thinking I was going to be like Indiana Jones...though I didn't get to wear the hat it still was a great class and he is a great teacher
