Comment:
Middleton is not as much as a nightmare as everyone says. He requires you to know your stuff, or you will not do well. The book is the secret weapon for this class. His tests do not go nearly as in depth as the practice problems. Get Chegg to see the solutions, and you'll do fine. The second test requires knowledge of terminology and the hardest

Comment:
Dr. Middleton's lectures can be incoherent at times. His method of teaching will some time infer ideas and concepts instead of stating them precisely and explicitly. For instance, this quote "Because they will bring this block into memory and play with the block over here and do interesting things", is vague and add little to the concept at hand.

Since a freshman, I have looked forward to operating systems, even read 2 chapters during the summer break. Unfornualaty the professor's teaching style is extremely verbose and convoluted to the point where lectures are, with respect, feckless. I recommend reading every chapter twice, focus mostly on the broad concepts, not specific implementations

Hard but Doable Class. Make sure to study and come with questions. He has even admitted he doesn't know the greatest deal about this class. Grade is based on 3 test plus the final. He does curve even though he claims not. Told us some funny things about Austraila.

Read the material and do the assigned problems at the end of each chapter so that you are prepared to ask any questions in the next class meet. Dr. Middleton is very knowledgeable but isn't the best at teaching. He mentions this himself. Your grade is based off a few tests, so be sure to study and know the material well.

Intelligent teacher but goes over board of the topic and explains unnecessary topics and jumps back to back on different subjects. Very confusing way how he teaches I would not recommend, his lectures are long and boring.

If you want to truly understand how programming languages work to understand what is appropriate to use for a particular problem this class is it. Professor even meets with students outside of class for extra information about various interesting programming languages!

This professor is hard on the students with good reason. Self motivation and research is needed in this field of study. I enjoyed the class and his sarcasm only made it more enjoyable. Remember to constantly reread the book and keep up with the reading that is given.

Very hard course. I am an A student and I did barely manage to pull off an A with some massive curves on tests. And all grades are based on tests with little to no homework except reading the book over and over and over. Boring...wish I didn't have to take him multiple times.

Loved his class. If no one cheated on the first test, his tests would be much easier. He's funny but very sarcastic. Tough class but learned a great deal. Will definitely take him again!

The orientation lab was very boring. Class wasnt hard, but had nothing to do with the lecture and he rarely explained anything in a clear way. Boring but easy to pass.

Lab definitly makes you think and he hates giving students the answer to a problem. Takes a lot of self motivation and figuring stuff out on your own. Overall if you do everything and go to class youll get an A. But the work is stressful.

Information packed lectures. Good sense of humor that will help you stay alert. Attend class, take good notes, read the books and you'll get an A/B. Know lists of things. Grade system seemed to have a wide range of scores for A's and a gracefulness that won't give out F's unless you really deserve it. Very valuable in understanding OS concepts.

He has an australian accent and says things in a way that's hard to understand. He will not just give you the answer for something, you will have to figure things out on your own. You will stay busy in his class. Overall not a bad teacher, but you will have to be self motivated. I recommend taking him.

He tries to make his class as difficult as he can. On the first day, he compared his class to trying to find your way out of a completely dark room.

Most unique person you will meet in the CS department; this makes him an amazing person but intolerable as a teacher. One A in his upper level classes, at most. Grading style is ambiguous: one test I got a 75-A, the next, a 76-B. Your words will be nitpicked. You'll be expected to read for hours. Avoid class if possible. If you see chocolate, run.
