My entire grade was based on papers, and if the papers are not perfect, you are not getting an A. Great person, really bad class.

He is a good helper if you seek for help, but it was hard for me to keep up with his lecture. He's not very clear at explaining concepts and often moves on to next idea before finishing one. You have to expect some extra work outside of the class in order to manage good grade. Overall, this lecture was waste of my time.

He was my first professor in college, and he was very understanding and helpful. He is the best teacher I have ever had and if he has another class that I can take, then I most definitely will. He's the man, the myth, the legend. He's really funny, has a phresh getup, and he's a homie. Grosshans for life!

Grosshans is a kind and easy going professor -- he provides help when you ask. There were periods when he gave us large amounts of reading and the three papers you write are the bulk of your grade for the class. His lectures can be dry. Your commitment to this class really determines how much you'll enjoy it.

Prof. Grosshans is the professor to have for UCOR 1400. He's engaging, insightful, and your writing will greatly improve in his class. Read, even if just skimming, to participate in class and it's hard not to receive an A.

Good class for a freshman writing class. Not the best if you actually want to learn anything. I spent most of the goofing off in the back, but I still got an A in the class. Work on your papers though! You can screw around in class, but you better kill those papers.

Excellent professor. Very intelligent, respectable, helpful, kind funny, and overall very enjoyable to be around. Great conversationalist which is helpful in class discussions, and I always like to hear what he has to say. Overall an excellent professor and I recommend his class. For UCOR he gave very clear directions and allows revisions. DO THEM!

UCOR 1400: Lit as the Voice of Cultures. Professor Grosshans is one of the most respectable, genuine professors I have ever met. If you do the reading, you'll find that his lectures are interesting. You will understand his humor if you do the reading, and will find that he is a very funny man. Work hard, read, and you will end up with an A.

True, the class is boring at times, but it is not a hard class. The first and hardest work we read was the Iliad, and after that, everything was straight forward. Three fairly long essays (7,10,8 pages)but no tests at all. Also, sit near him because he is hard to hear.

Comment:
The lectures are somewhat boring and most of the class chooses not to participate. However, if you participate and have even an inkling of interest in literature and Asian poetry then the class is surprisingly enjoyable. The essays are graded more on grammar and following directions then any difficult level of critical analysis.

THE MOST BORING CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. Do not take Grosshans. Two allowed absences and its a struggle to stay away every day. Talks in the most monotone voice, and randomly drifts off halfway through sentences followed by random laughter while everyone else sits there confused.

Grading consists of four exceedingly long essays. Honestly do not take this 110 course. Also the subject matter is boring as well.

Being my first college course, I went into the class a little skeptical. However, Professor Grosshans was amazing, it was evident he sincerely wanted us to succede and gave us aid through the quarter. Thanks to Professor Grosshans, I am a better writer and confident in my work. Due to this course, I feel I will be more successful in future classes!

He is really cool and nice. Lots of discussion in the class. Medium amount of reading. Not overwelming. Lots of people didn't read the assigned reading and you do ok, you just probably be lost to what is referring to during discussion. Very approachable and easy to talk to. I do not usually love English but I'll miss this class.

Hands down one of the best professors at SU. He genuinely wants all of his students to do well. I highly recommend him.. it's a fairly easy class; as long as he sees your earnest attempt to do well, you'll be fine. Easy A, just take advantage of his unlimited rewrites for papers and make sure people are talking in class--he hates silence.

This class was very insightful. He's a great and understanding guy. Oh and his life is VERY interesting so ask him about it in class! I learned more about the meaning of life from Prof. Grosshans than any other class I've taken. The class is what you make out of it, but by the end of the quarter you will be wanting to do more research on your own.
