This is your sign: PLEASE take Jans class. You wont regret it. She is enthusiastic, kind, self-aware, and really good at using real-life example to connect to course materials. Loves to learn and will make you love it too. She made our class feel welcoming and engaging even through zoom!!! Super encouraging and gives fair/thorough feedback! :)

Comment:

Jan's care, personality, & passion makes this class worth taking. But if all you know is how to write a perfect AP Lit essay, you won't succeed in this class, I was barely able to make it to an A- as this took me too long to realize. She wants to write with certain prose, which you figure out for yourself since she's very vague with expectations.

Comment:

We would read a book and she would ask us to, "Write something inspired by it." When asked to clarify, she didn't since it was very much an open-ended class. She lets the students shape the class (while following the syllabus) and it goes to show how much she cares about us being inspired to work rather than being forced to work. HIGHLY recommend.

She truly cares about her students and their success. She is always available to help and provides feedback. She encourages you to share your ideas and is open to these new ideas. She's unclear on how you'll be graded because she wants you to focus on personal growth and to think outside of the box instead of "trying to impress her" for the grade

I love Jan. She cares a lot about you and how you are doing. she brings her puppy to class often (so cute). 1 or 2 papers due a week, but she doesn't give much instruction and wants you to think critically and find a topic you want to write about which is nice, but after a while feels repetitive. I would take this class again she is adorable.

A friend of mine recommended Jan as an advisor for an internship. She was so sweet and happy to meet with me whenever needed. When my internship turned sour, she helped me get out of it in a professional manner while still giving me credit since I received my hours. Such a sweet and fun lady!

Jan exceeded my expectations so many times. She's sweet, genuine, and actually interested in the material she teaches. She learns as much from her students as she teahcers, creating a dialogic atmosphere in class that can't be matched. If you can take a class with Jan, please do!

Jan Osborn is one of the most wonderful women I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She's kind, considerate, generous with her time and extra help, inspirational, gives wonderful feedback, and is overall one of the smartest people I've come across here at Chapman. I can't give enough praise for Jan! She isn't the traditional professor who stands at a podium and lectures at students; rather, she walks students through the rhetorical process, considering the concepts alongside us. This class really changed my perspective of the world around me, and Jan was incredibly kind and accessible throughout it all.

Jan has a lot of passion/energy, & it really comes out in class. Took this class my first semester and it was challenging, but she made herself available via email & office hours. She's a tough but fair grader. Gives amazing lectures and assignments to encourage the development of critical thinking skills. She really loves her students.

I am absolutely obsessed with Jan. She is one of the most passionate human beings I have ever met, which is something that inspires me. She promotes true learning in this course and so it isn't all about the grades. She is not an easy grader, but you learn and she gives you SO much feedback. Jan is incredible, take a class with her and you will see

Jan is one of the professors that made my Chapman experience. She has been the most influential and positive influence in my education and in my writing. Her passion for the subject matter shines through in her lectures, and her enthusiasm is contagious! It's impossible not to love her!! Her class should be mandatory for all students, so amazing

Comment:

Osborn is one of my favorite professors and people at Chapman. She is a tough grader, but the feedback she gives is invaluable. Her Humanomics FFC is by far the hardest class I took during my first semester at Chapman, but I learned the most compared to my other classes. Take her class if you are ready to work hard and learn a lot. NOT AN EASY A!!!

The ratings are accurate. She is helpful. Will work with you to make sure that everything is clear to you. That being said, the material is somewhat challenging if you devote time to it. She gives a lot of work. If this is for your major you won't mind it, but if you took this as a GE, like me, it's annoying.

Quite possibly the sweetest person you will ever meet. Jan has the best heart and will guide you through the subject matter clearly if you just ask. Her lectures are a little disorganized and hard to follow, but that's only because she is so passionate about the subject. Not an easy grader, but not super tough either. Overall, I loved the class.
