Very sarcastic which can come off as rude, but if you do the work and study you can get an A. Make a group chat for the class and study together to make it easier for an online class.

Comment:

Professor Witty is amazing. He doesn't call on anyone randomly, rather goes around the room if he wants participation, which gives you some time to prepare. Quizzes every chapter on vocabulary, so study. Attendance matters but if you only miss a couple classes it's fine. Midterm and final are the only tests. His office hours are very helpful.

Comment:

It's Arabic, so it's not easy - class attendance matters to pass, the textbook is a workbook so it's used. Prof. Witty is hilarious, but Prof. Firat, the other Arabic professor, is better at sinking the knowledge in. Just depends on what you're looking for. Vocab quizzes frequently, a few big tests.

Amazing professor. I've learned a lot from him. He makes the class enjoyable to learn and takes off your two lowest quiz grades. If you're trying to learn Arabic and have no background, I highly recommend you take him!

The lectures can be boring sometimes. Attendance is mandatory. It's an easy gen-ed if you hand in all of the homework on time. There are no tests or finals.

So easy. Took it to fulfill a gen-ed and I would do it again. Just show up (attendance is mandatory), do the one page response papers for the weekly assignment (sometimes he skips a week or will extend the deadline), easy midterm paper on whatever you choose from the assigned works, and final paper is the same just 2 pages longer.

Great professor and very reasonable grader. It's a tough subject, but he makes it manageable. To give you an idea of how the course progresses, at the beginning of the semester Arabic was completely incomprehensible to me, but I ended up being able to read basic texts.

Comment:

Ustaadh Gordon gave me a really good introduction to Arabic. This class is heavily based on quiz grades and sticks closely to the text. The course work wasn't overwhelming, but it was undeniably challenging. You have to put in the work in order to get a good grade. That being said, he'll answer any questions you have and gives excellent feedback.

Taken two Arabic language classes with Dr. Witty so far, as well as a gen ed course. I love the guy! He is hilarious, and has a very dry and realistic outlook on the world. I thoroughly enjoy learning from him, and have taken a great deal from his classes.

Dr. Witty is really great considering that the material is not the easiest. If you are well-prepared, the quizzes and exams are not too bad. He does a great job at giving you all the tools needed to succeed in the class, but you will still have keep up with the assignments and studying. Plus he is very funny and cares about his students!

Dr. Witty is very kind and understanding. It seems that he grades on the principle that there are no right/wrong answers, and is happy enough that you are reading and watching the course materials and can provide your own (emphasis on your own) discourse.

He is hilarious and just a genuine Professor. I never cared for middle east history, even though I am arab, but this guy made it that much more interesting, and put the arab world in a perspective that you would never have thought about before. Pretty important in todays world if you ask me.

Comment:

Witty is a pretty cool guy. Jokes around and even pokes fun at how Arabic sounds. Fair grader but you have to stay up to date with the vocab or you will fall behind. MUST study for tests, but they are not ridiculously hard. Try not to miss classes because you will fall behind, the material is not easy. Recommend.

Witty is AMAZING. Really wants you to learn the language, and teaches it well. His humor gets me every time (even when you're the brunt of a joke, it's funny). Take him, definitely.
