This professor is really great!! I loved learning from him. This class is super hard though. A good portion of his material was found form the outside. You have to memorize three things: Elemental Symbols, Polyatomic Ions, and the units. I would suggest going to tutoring and learning from Charlie and Michelle, make quizlets. only the final counts.

It is the same story as chem1411.... the lectures are basically story time. he blazes through material whilst not writing a single equation on the white board. most students in my class do not have a clue besides the ones that were smart enough to learn it beforehand.

I believe that the work that I will be required to perform at a university level will suffer. I learned 99% of the material from outside resources. The lectures seemed irrelevant and the book is incomprehensible compared to the books that I bought. I usually do not rush to judgement, but I believe that there is a better candidate to teach chemistry

Dr Robinson is an amazing chemist. Speak to him for a few minutes and you'll find that he is an intelligent, humorous professor who has done many interesting things in his lifetime. Unfortunately, his inspiring intellect does not carry over in effectively teaching the subject. Only the final counts for grade. Read, work problems and you'll do fine

Jack knows his stuff when it comes to Chemistry. There are 3 test for the Summer session. 1 and 2 are worth only 10% each , the final is worh 80%. Study hard and do all, or attempt to do all the pracitce sets available for each chapter. Finished with a C. He is very understanding of peoples situations and really cares about his students.

Comment:
Robinson doesn't go into enough detail in his lectures and expects the students to know more than what he lectures on. If you want to do well, you need to do a great deal of out of class study and practice problems. If you study hard outside of class, his tests are not impossible. He also curves the final grade a lot.

Did not learn much in class, in his lectures, he would say you don't need to know that or we will cover that in a different chapter and then we never seem to cover anything. Don't get me wrong he is an intelligent man, but just doesn't know how to teach the subject to his students. Would not take Chem 2 from him, he is the only teacher at WC, so

I don't know what sin i had committed in my previous life that i chose him for Chemistry. Don't expect an A unless u are a Rocket Scientist. No help at all. Final will do the Grading. Teaches thoroughly from the book but the test is exactly different from what he teaches. Worst teacher i took in my life. A very good human being though.

In our first lab I asked a question of why a reaction occurred and he said would go over it in a few weeks, I told him I was a visual learner and I would like to know why now since it's in front of me if he had time to explain it. He said he didn't and went and sat down at his desk and supervised the class. Avoiding teaching opportunities...

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! If you can avoid it and take it at another school, DO. He is the only chem professor. There is one grade: the final. None of what he teaches is helpful or prepares you for the tests. He is a brilliant chemist but has no idea whatsoever how to convey his knowledge to students.

For the love of God and all of humanity, never take this class! If you have the hard textbook, you might succeed, but expect little to no help from Jack. He teaches as if you clearly understand everything and if you ask about it, he laughs and makes fun of you, laughing openly at you for not understanding the hell that chem is. AVOID IF YOU CAN

Jack is an absolute wonderful human being however, teaching is not his strong suite at ALL. His monotone attitude in class makes it almost unbearable to stay awake, and his process of teaching is all over the place. I do not recommend him as a teacher but, I do recommend talking to him in general. Overall, very nice but, disappointing as an teacher.

I believe he's a super genius, and that may deter his teaching... The lectures were very sporatic; we basically just went page by page in the book and he would talk about the things he found interesting. Chemistry is a hard subject though.

I never listened what he was saying in class, he knows alot of thing but doesn't know how to explain to students. I got A on both chem I and II just because I remembered what my high school teachers taught me. But Jack is a nice guy.

At times he can be a bit difficult to understand. Makes chemistry fun and interesting but you may have to seek help from someone other than him to get a decent grade.
