Comment:

Getting an A in his class isn't too hard, but the tests were frustrating in that many of the questions were not related to lecture content or the study guide, so be prepared to guess and hope that the 14-20 point scale makes up for you inevitably being underprepared. Try for another MUS215 prof especially if you have no music experience.

Comment:

Dr. Davis made this course way harder than it needed to be and treated the lecture like a joke, while having extremely hard tests and expecting 4 page essays on concerts. His lectures are monotonous and he will not help you at all if you are having trouble in the class. To put things in perspective, I have an A+ in BIO & a B in this class.

Class is lectures w/ 3 tests & 3 concert reflections (4 if you do extra credit for 30 points on lowest test grade). Tests are REALLY hard, but if you REALLY STUDY the study guide given, then you'll be fine. Curves ALL test grades 20ish points. Final is NOT cumulative, & if u wright 3-4 solid pages for the concert reflections, you'll get the A!

Just don't take music appreciation in general. Take theatre or something else. This class was way harder than it needed to be and monumentally boring. Dr. Davis doesn't post his slides online and then flies through them in class. I love music and this class made me want to hate it.

He is the hardest appreciation of music professor, if you do not care about music do not take him! His tests have tons of material on them!! He will push back test dates if he has not finished his powerpoint, strickyl leture with powerpoint class.

I had him for BCC and it was the easiest class I will ever have. He is extremely funny and understands what kind of a work load college students are under. He is always around to talk if you need him. Awesome guy!!

If you're looking for an easy class, this is the class for you. All you have to do is show up. But if you're looking for a symphonic band in which the musicians are eager to play well and the director encourages them to perform well, don't join this band! The players don't care about the class, and Dr. Davis doesn't expect anything from them!

Dr. Davis is super nice and helpful, especially in some of the classes where you get a lot of one on one attention, but Symphonic band is, for me at least, the worst band I've ever been in. The music is waaaay too easy and he doesn't require and expect much from the musicians in the band, so all of our concerts are boring and sappy. YAWN

Show up, put in effort and you'll do great. Dr. Davis is flexible with your schedule and is pretty approachable w/conflicts. Good guy, really nice. Oh, but he HATES cell phones going off during rehersal. My suggestion would be to turn them off or put them on silent.
