I have taken several classes with Judy. She is pretty disorganized, but she really loves teaching about ancient stuff. I am probably one of the few people who liked her as a prof.

I took one of Dr Gaughan's 100 level classes my Junior year and struggled to receive a passing grade! Not because the class way difficult, but because her teaching style is confused at best and her grading is hyper-critical! The class was almost always disorganized and yet any problems or confusion were always blamed on the students. No easy A here

Sadly all of these negative comments are fairly accurate. Suffice it to say that I'm not a "sniveling freshman..." and certainly don't mind working. It boils down to this. If you pretend to believe that men are bad, women have been and are being mistreated by men, and that every reference to a woman in literature bears this out, it's an EASY A+.

Comment:

Most of the negative reviews of Dr. Gaughan are from sniveling freshman who are upset because they actually had to read a book. Dr. Gaughan can be challenging, her lecture style is fairly erratic. However, she knows her material and expects more from her students than just regurgitating some names and dates. If you want a challenge, I recommend her

Poor professor. Her organization of lectures is horrible and makes the class generally hard to comprehend and take interest in. She asks for opinion papers but then grades down for having opinions differing from her. Avoid taking classes from her.

I have read the great works of people like Thucydides, Plutarch, Aristotle, Sun Tzu, Mushashi (really I have), I grew up with a love of history, a yearning to understand it. This teacher almost killed that in me. Her class is not about history, its about her, and what she dislikes in the world, and how "she" interprets things. She is not a teacher.

She is horrible. She takes everything personally and second guesses YOU if you don't understand her crap that she calls teaching! I even went to the department head to tell him how horrible she is doing. I don't know why she is still there!

She should not be teaching, period. She is more concerned with indoctrinating you with her extreme views of feminism than with anything to do with history. Almost no substance and alot of hot air. If you can sacrifice your principles and give her what she wants in the essays your get a good grade, otherwise, be prepeared to be offended.
