I failed her class the first time I took it then I took again with her and got a B because I had all her tests and could see how she marked me off. After that I took Calc 2 at the University of Michigan Dearborn and got an A so my failing had nothing to do with the amount of effort I put in she is just that hard. This is a warning, stay away!

Comment:

I took Bearden a couple semesters ago because her Calc 1 section was the only one open. I didn't appreciate the class until I went into Calc 2, because she had taught me how to study for and prepare for exams. Am I happy I took her? Yes, in hindsight. Would I recommend her? Nope.

Comment:

Bearden's grading criteria makes you look like a poor student to anyone looking at your transcripts. For example, an 80% is a fairly respectable grade. Yet an 80% (should be 3.2/4.0) will yield a 2.7/4.0 which looks as if you only managed a 67.5% and that is pretty poor. I know every professor has their own grading criteria, but I feel cheated.

Overall an ok teacher. All of the bookworm assigned is optional but if you don't do it you will fail the test. All of the handouts assigned as homework are difficult and are graded on accuracy. She grades everything very harshly and will notice any slight mistake.

Is not clear with expectations AT ALL. Worst teacher I have had so far at Schoolcraft College. I am a 4.0 student and I put my all into every assignment. I get along with most teachers no matter their teaching style, but this professor is utterly insulting with her feedback and grading style.

This professor is very rude and unprofessional. She makes Schoolcraft look bad. She is a math professor yet she gives out half credit for tedious punctuation errors. She makes snide remarks and complains about grammar when hers isn't flawless herself. This is a MATH CLASS NOT A WRITING COURSE. DON'T RUIN MY MATH GRADE OVER GRAMMAR!

I only made this account to counter act the posts about this professor. She is tough especially with grading. But she's definitely fair and does give extra help. We even got behind and rushed the last 2 chapters because she spent so much time going over homework problems at the beginning of class. Listen to her when she says do homework everyday.

Lectures are fast and hard to keep up with. Will take a point off for anything she can possibly find. Likes to torture her students by making practice exams easier than actual and returning grades in the form of a suppository.

This professor is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She makes you feel stupid and belittles you when you ask a question. Her tests are pretty difficult and what she teaches in lecture is nothing like them. She always showed up late to my early class which pissed me off because if I'm there on time, you should be too. Would not recommend.

Professor Bearden is a tough and RUDE instructor, she represents schoolcraft college and she is the head of the math department, wow. If she is having one of her days whatever that is she will ignore questions and she will get mad other times when you ask questions. It seems like to me she loves math but HATES to teach. Would recommend if u want 2 be prepared for calc 23. Is head of the math department,so she's tough but you will learn alot. Is very strict grader - you'll be marked down for even the most minor mistake. Half of class droppedwd. Was always grumpy in class and annoyed by questions about material already covered. Is nice outside of class though.

Very tough class. She does test what she teaches, but for some reason her teaching doesn't come through. Very arrogant! Talks about how she is better than the other teachers in her dept (she is math head). If you go to office hours for help she is a totally different person, explains things and caring. I have mixed feelings about her.

Hardest teacher I have seen in my career. Who gives you the grades in negative? for example, -210, -35. The notes are UNREADABLE, you barely can read. there is nothing like review for exam. just says that read the book and do the problems. doesn't even show the exam format or anything like that. avoid this teacher if you want better grades.

Although she is very knowledgeable about her material she fails to understand that she is teaching for others to learn. Homework and exams are graded harshly with no feedback in order to correct your failures. Overall, she is a good professor but with her all or nothing approach, maybe she should be teaching a Calculus II class.

Bearden is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. She gets upset when students don't ask questions and then fail tests (our class median for the exams was always under 65%). When someone DOES ask a question, she treats them like they're stupid for asking. Her note packets are all handwritten and hard to read. Take a different professor.
