I took this class online! It was very difficult to me, but that is being I know NOTHING about programming. The only reason I did well was because one of my friends is a Computer Science Major. I would not recommend taking online if you think programming could be hard. It felt like I was learning a whole new language, and I found lectures boring!

Comment:
Course textbook is online - and while not mandatory you'll miss out on things unless you're used to the subject matter as lectures don't cover it all. Easy to get behind if you don't manage to balance the two. Good feedback & quick to email even at odd hours, did well during the pandemic shutdown transitioning the class. Grades are test heavy @ 45%

Dr. Smith is a great professor who really wants the student to succeed. He makes the class easy since this is the first programing class for most students. Would recommend!

Class with Professor Smith was honestly a good experience. The difficulty level is accommodating to beginners, and he is extremely lenient with his grading. If you show up and follow along with the lectures, you'll do just fine. He really wants to see his students succeed.

Dr. Smith was great. He knows his stuff, although sometimes he has a hard time teaching it. There are a couple of graded assignments, quizzes and tests. Not a lot of points, so you have to know your stuff to do well. He is more than willing to explain anything you don't understand one on one though. Take advantage of the free textbook.

Dr. Smith is truly a great guy. These classes are filled with students with diverse experience in programming and Dr. Smith treats this well; with the programming assignments, there are extra tasks for no additional credit for students looking for more of a challenge. From this class, it really is eye-opening to see how far code can take you!

Dr. Smith is a super nice guy who is willing to help anyone outside of class, even on the weekends. He understands that people going into CSC130 could be experienced programmers or people who have barely used a computer, so don't be afraid. His tests are open note, the assignments are helpful, and his class is very interesting. Take this class!

Comment:
Smith is one of the few professors in the department who believes in in-class programming. Unlike other professors, he doesn't spend his entire class talking about theory and reading off a PowerPoint. That being said, his classes are not trivial. If you put in the effort though, you will UNDOUBTEDLY learn something and probably get an A too.

This class was pretty simple, but he was a good teacher. This was mostly just presentations and class discussions.

It was a very basic class that was easy to grasp as long as you showed up. Attendance wasn't mandatory but quizzes were random so you needed to show up. Fun class, great teacher, and really easy to communicate with. Would recommend it for an Introduction to Python and really that is what it is at its core. (:

This class wasn't too difficult but can be really slow and boring at times. There are a few quizzes, a couple assignments, and 3 tests. Professor Smith wasn't always the nicest person at times but he wasn't the worst. Also was pretty difficult to get a hold of due to the fact he never established true office hours. Not the worst class but easy.

Professor Smith was a great teacher. The class was a beginner computer science class and he definitely taught it like one. Does not assume you have any prior programming experience. Pay attention though because it does get pretty complex and it is hard to come back if you miss anything. Would highly recommend him.

Smith is excellent for CSC130. Make sure you KEEP&SAVE all of your Python programs and all of the assignments and in-class programs. Python continues into CSC131, and having those programs will be a big help.

Smith is AMAZING. Turned CSC130 into for programming for dummies. No prior knowledge required. Every assignment is clearly explained and some are line by line fill in the blank. Quizzes are hard, but only a small part of your grade. Drops your lowest quiz. All quizzestests are open bookopen notes. Will help you with any assignment, just email him

The class can be very easy or very hard, it depends entirely on the amount of background knowledge and interest you have in the subject. For people looking to take this class, unless you have prior knowledge of genuine interest in programing, don't take this class. Homework is either right or not and tests are unforgiving.

Dr. Smith is extremely helpful. If there is anything at all you don't understand, he couldn't be better about explaining it. He expects effort, but he's a very easy going guy and always has time to help. Tests are open note/book, so anything is fair game. High expectations, but couldn't ask for a better professor. Really nice, too.

Smith is a great teacher. The class is very basic, but some topics can be hard to grasp. He is sometimes a little vague, but answers any questions VERY well. Homework is hard, but he gives in class time to work on it and will help you thru it if you need it. Make a few flash cards for tests and you will get an A. Tests are open book/note so buy it.
