Comment:

Dr. Porter is kind, poised, and professional as a teacher and mentor. She pushed you hard as a student and if you work hard she will treat you with respect and compassion. However, if you do not work hard she will not coddle you and may not be as warm. This is a reason why I love her. She has become more than a teacher but a mother figure to me.

Comment:

Dr. Porter has a reputation for being a harsh and difficult professor, but this reputation has either been given by students who do not know her or who did not do the work in their lessons. She is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, understanding, and compassionate. Ive learned a great deal and have never experienced this scary reputation.

A professor who takes her job seriously. Expects a great deal. Perhaps a bit overly zealous, but means well. She wants you to learn repertoire. Does not give away a grade. If you are serious, she is the professor for you. You have to work a great deal in her course. Reading is extensive. Expect much from yourself. May be a bit biased in some ways.

Dr. Porter has a stunning lack of experience in her field. I know of many of her students who find her teaching technique poor and her policies assinine. Run away.
